What are the brown wires for?

When I photographed stripping down my Stag some 6-7 years ago I clearly didn't take enough close-ups!
On wall of the RHS footwell there are seven heavy brown wires. They're now on the LHS anyone know what they connect to?
You can see some of them in the picture to the right of the multi wire connectors and to the right of the relay.
    Thanks
    Nick

Not sure if it's the same, but I have a similar set up on my Mk2 LHD with heavy brown wires. They are simply joined to one another (common earth I guess). In fact, I have one bunch with three wires and one with (I think) 4 wires.

      Hi Nick,
The brown wires are the main power coming from the battery/fuse box.
I've attached a copy of the colours for the wiring on the Stag.
Do you have a wiring diagram for your model? 'Cos that's what you really need to trace them.
      I hope this helps.
By the way, best wishes on winning the World Cup.
      Cheers,

The main battery feed is brown, not to be confused with a modern car where it is earth!! On a Mk1 there is an insulated terminal on the bulkhead which transfers the battery feed into the car.

Nick get yourself one of these look for your car listed by the vin # i think The thing has saved me hours of looking at the black and white stuff. I had them make an enlargement at work so now I have a 24 x 36 poster size makes it so much easier

The colour chart will be very useful thanks. Stuart the colour wiring diagrams are a great idea but they don't seem to do one for a 72 Federal LHD car with A/C. I did start to re-create the wiring diagram from the workshop manual using SmartDraw. The plan was to move all the components to their correct position on the car - I figured it would be easier to follow but I haven't finished it yet.
From the comments its clear the plain brown wires are main power wires they've all got female spade connectors on them so they must connect to some piece(s) of hardware.
By the way look at the difference in the relay panel to the one shown above.

That's interesting. I wonder if the 6 or 7 brown wires taped together on mine are the ones which you have spades on and which are for air-conditioning etc. Sorry my pics didn't help you.

Interesting with the brown being for power. I haven't started looking at my electrics yet, but my guess was really that they were earths! Still, it was only a first guess!

Incidentally I didn't like the look of all those 39 year old relays so I remade the board with modern ones. I know I'm going to lose lot's of concours points!
