Earth !

Hey ho, just a word to the wise, when you re-connect the engine earth to the front water pipe clamp bolt, make certain the bolt goes through the hole in the tag, doing it by touch one evening, I trapped a corner of it instead, and have been having starting problems for a fortnight - until last night, when it came loose and the old girl refused resolutely to turn over visions of knackered starter motor and/or new battery flashed before my eyes - till this afternoon I think I'm dead lucky that the choke and accelerator cables didn't burn out Hey ho, getting old, at least the repair was free Martin.

That Accelerator cable gets pretty hot when the starter is using it as an earth!!!

Mine got through an MOT like that, despite it refusing to start outside the garage and having to be pushed in!!!

I bet it passed the emissions.

Well, I didn't quite get away with it, the accelerator has become quite notchy, I reckon the nylon lining has partly melted, new one on it's way, not a free repair then, but at least it's quite cheap. Martin.

Check the choke cables as well - these were also damaged when exactly the same happened to mine.
