    oil pressure switch

    I know there are other posts on this subject,But how the hell do you get to the bloody thing! i want to fit an oil pressure gauge, I have tried a socket,spanner,tap wrench, all I have ended up with is grazed knuckles and tools thrown all over the garage it seems that next to the switch is another bolt head which prevents me from getting a good grip around the oil switch, I thought this was going to be one of the easy jobs!!

            My new best mate, Russ said whilst fettling, you have to drop the exhaust to get at it and get a proper oil tight joint, I can't be bothered at the moment, almost, what you do not know, you do not worry about

              I had a hell of a job getting mine out until someone on here suggested one of these basin wrenches. The one I got locally wasn't cheap but it did the trick and I've used it for quite a few plumbing jobs since

                Hi Cliff, Or an offset open end spanner that goes on the end of a socket set extension bar.

                  You can do it from the top, but it aint easy! Skinned knuckles and swearing for sure.

                    It's called a crows foot, I've got a set, but never found anything they fitted. I did it from above and it wasn't too difficult - difficult - but not TOO difficult. As for skinned knuckles, isn't that par for the course ? Martin.

                      Haha - just teasing Cliff. Your problem here is that you have to commit to whatever is needed to change the switch, and keep plugging forward. The switch is a pain as it is a steel taper, going into an alloy housing, probably with a loctite type thread sealant, and then to take the piss they give it a 7/16 or 1/2 hex made of mickey mouse metal, and then cover it with a bloody sombrero!

                      Unless you are seriously lucky, it won't turn with a spanner, and will round off the hex. Bugger! So, then you need to decide what you'll do next.... you could try the basin wrench, and you might be lucky and it'll unscrew - or the sombrero will just spin....

                      Next, if you are still struggling, remove the oil filter and see if you can reach round and remove the bolt attaching the transfer housing, take off the housing and then it will be easy to get the switch out with a pair of grips... but then you'll.need to get new o rings for the housing as that will now leak.....

                      And all you wanted was that green light to come on........

                        Thanks for your replys guys, I think my new oil pressure gauge will still be in its box when I sell the Stag! If Russ dos'nt think its easy its certainly not a job for someone with little patience!

                          For me Cliff, its a Marmite job coz I have big hands.... I end up swearing loads and lose skin.
