I've been reading this since yesterday on the TR Forum (shocking language on the original forum where it was posted!!) and am amazed at the way it is moving in the direction of placing the blame on the roadworks guys. Isn't there something that you learn which says only to drive so that you can stop within the distance which you can see? Fair enough that the road workers might not have put up all the signs which a "Nanny State" might require them to, but what if it had ben a pedestrian or a child?

OUCH!Originally posted by Another Peter View Post
I was a little luckier than the TR driver, my impact was only at a few mph but the damage was serious enough for a complete front end rebuild, all for a little lack of attention on my behalf on a nice sunny day!

Wherever I can, I'll pull up short of the last car in situations like this and keep an eagle eye on my mirror. Hopefully I'll be able to move into the space I've created if someone does come bombing up behind me. I did learn that the hard way when last in a queue to turn right and my poor old Laguna took the hit to the boot.
I notice both airbags popped on the Fiesta and the occupants though shaken, walked away. It appears the interior space remained intact and you might expect good secondary safety from a modern car, especially at the likely speeds involved here. In stark contrast, the guy in the TR was unconscious for a spell and didn't get out of his car. Possibly not fit to, or trapped by the legs judging by the damage to the offside front. It is a sobering reminder of the vulnerabilities of our lovely old machines.
Let's hope he's okay.

I have had exactly the same experience as the TR guy.
Came around a blind corner with no roadwork markings to find two truckers stopped chatting to each other. The truck going my way had the temporary green light but was stopped chatting to the guy going the other way and was holding up two other drivers trying to get to work as well.
I ended up on the wrong side of the road bumper to bumper with the truck coming the other way. The driver of the truck was so busy chatting he didnt even see me till id stopped. One of the other car drivers who had been parked and blocked by the truck going the same way as me was raving mad at the two truckers. Apparently they had been stopped there when he had come round the corner doing the same as me just doing the speed limit on a country road nothing overly dangerous. In my case no accident happened as there was room to stop by pure luck and no judgement but whilst I was stopped getting my head sorted out another car came flying round the corner and in order to avoid the standing traffic ended up in the bushes! From which we then had to extract him and his car again with no damage other than some scratches to his paintwork and some embarrased apologies from the two truckers who had been prevented from carrying on with their conversation and their own journeys due to the commotion their actions had caused
Roadworkers must take some responsibility for the placement of signs in sensible places. Giving drivers warning of roadworks BEFORE the blind bend would be most appropriate not after the bend. Other road users should also be aware of the dangers that their own actions create
Drivers then have a chance to react to those signs and drive accordingly.
I'm not trying to give the guy in the TR any excuse just to say we cant see all the facts from the way the pictures are taken and posted and things may not be as cut and dried as it would first appear. We do only have the BM guys take on the events after all and he refers to the Triumph coming "very fast". Given the circumstances as we see them thats hardly likely to be anything other than in his own defense and I reckon any car coming round that bend would have appeared to be going "very fast" when you are at the back of the queue.
Maybe the circumstances are that this was an accident waiting to happen and that all those involved were just unfortunate. Legally I guess the TR driver will get the blame (He is on the wrong side of the road that is a fact) But It sounds like that although injuries were sustained there was definitely more damage done to metal than skin and bones and so here endeth the lesson... be careful out there you never know what is round that corner!
