Fitting a hazard warning system to an early Stag

I was wondering how easy it is to fit hazard warning lights using a standard Stag switch to a 1972/73 car.

Hazard warning lights were introduced in 1974 but does anyone know if the wiring was present on earlier cars?

I have had a look at a couple of wiring diagrams, although there is no mention of a hazard warning system on the earlier UK cars it does appear to have been available on left hand drive cars. I am hoping that the wiring loom may have been similar therefore all that is required is to plug in a switch and probably a relay. Probably wishful thinking on my part!

If it is a simple job I will fit the switch in a discrete location so that it is in keeping with the year of the car. If anyone has fitted a hazard warning switch did you use a standard Stag switch and where did you locate it?

    Thanks.

    Hi Phil,

I fitted one to my old Mk1 many years ago using the standard type switch, which was readily available back then as they were fitted to many other cars. ISTR that mine came from a Vauxhall Nova in a scrap yard.....

I mounted it on the flat section above the passenger parcel shelf, just to the left of the heater switch, having to drill a suitable hole through the cardboard and the metal plate behind. Can't remember exactly how it was wired, but it was fairly straightforward, only requiring a few connectors and a hazard relay that mounted on the relay board.

You can buy a kit here: http://www.holden.co.uk/displayprodu...s&pCode=SFB300
This uses the original type of switch in a plastic housing.

I have to do this job to my car.
Its an earlyish MK2 but still didnt have the Hazard fitted... no wiring either. I will be replacing the rear heated screen switch with the hazard switch as I don't intend fitting a hard top. If I ever did fit a hard top then I will cross the heated rear screen thing when I have to. The hazard warning is far more essential than the rear screen heater IMHO.
