Carb overhaul - how acceptable is to mix parts?

    Hi All

I am busy dismantling the pair of CDSE carbs I purchased earlier today. How acceptable is it to mix and match components between carbs? For example, would I be okay to use the pistons and tops off my original carbs on these ones? Plus, if I use the pistons and air valves off the originals will they seal okay with the jets in the new carbs? If I have to swap over the jets, how do you get them out of the carb body? They took as if they are a tap in fit? No mention of how to remove them on the Buckeye website.

    Thanks for reading

    Regards

    Bruce

    Hello Bruce,

I guess you should make sure that pistons and tops always stay together, as they were "run in" together, too.

    Good luck,
    Dieter.

Whilst surfing the net looking for how to remove the jets I cam across this useful publication.

Again no mention on how to remove the jets. On the Volvo Forum I read a section relating to Stromberg carbs in which it makes mention of a two tools for pressing the jets in and out of the carb body.

        Hi Bruce

The main jets are pressed in, so you need a suitable sized drift to get them out. I think I used a 1/4 drive deep socket of the right diameter.
The jets I took out had an alloy part which bent when drifted out, so not sure if you will be able to reuse them.
New jets and metering needles would be a good idea.

        Cheers....Al
