    Grose valves

    Hi All

As part of my unplanned carb overhaul I took the advice off the Forum and purchased a pair of Grose float valves from Moss. When I came to fit one in the first carb this evening it would not screw in more than one thread. I tried it in another carb body and the same thing happened. I then offered up one of the new standard needle valves supplied with the carb gasket kit and that screwed in fine. When I compare the Grose valve against the standard needle valve I am of the opinion that the thread has not been formed correctly.

Has anybody else come across this problem with Grose valves?

    Regards

    Bruce

Bruce, it sounds like you've got the SU ones, the threads are finer than the Strombergs. Martin.

I fitted a pair of those because the left carb kept flooding. They went in just the way they should do and there's been no sign of a ticking pump since.

Moss's Part Number is GAC9200X and their description was 'Grose Jet 150/175CD.

Gents. Thanks for all your replies. I am confused by Duncan's post as I phoned Moss today and spoke to their engineer. He informed me that the valves they sell under part no. GAC9200X are not suitable for a Stag version of a 175 strom carb. He reckons that a US spec TR6 has a 175 with a different size valve and that is the one they stock. Apparently he went and checked his parts bin and they were all the same and no rejections from customers had been reported. So how come Duncan's ones fitted okay? Where did everyone else purchase theirs from? Rimmers and Paddocks don't list them as far as I am aware. Cheers. Bruce

Never mind the numbers, the CD 150/175 jets have the same thread irrespective of whether it's TR6 or Stag, they're all the same size. They've made an error, I've had this before with them, I was sent one of each, the one that fitted was rusty, the other had the wrong thread, they had no more so my money was refunded. Just re-order and insist they are careful with the picking. M.

That's not Strictly true Bruce, when I ordered mine I returned one of them for exchange because it appeared to have a different flow rate to the other when I blew through it.

The one that replaced it was much better.

                        Hi Guys

Thanks for all your assiatance. Could one of you please measure the length of the brass body of the spare valves you have? The ones I have here are 18mm.

                        Cheers

Do any of you guys have thread gauges so you can check the pitch of the valves that fit against the ones that don't? You could then phone the supplier back with a spec for the correct thread size.

                            Just a thought
