    Calling all Mk.1 owners

    Dear All

I understand that the door locking mechanisms are a weak point on Mk.1 Stags.
Can I ask how other Mk.1 owners get around this? I'm on my second set of mechanisms and the drivers door lock is just turning right round so I can't lock it (major problem if going out somewhere as can't leave car unattended!)

Surely there must be some supplier(s) who sell decent quality components for this problem?
Fitting Mk.2 doors (as I have been told the locking mechanisms will not transplant into a Mk.1 door) seems an expensive solution!

Maybe I should reconsider an alarm system from someone like Monarch (though with the Stag's electrical systems not being all that brilliant at the best of times, suspect I'd get either lots of false alarms, or it not working reliably!)

    Thanks

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew
Have you looked at the linkage in the workshop manual, it's simple enough, perhaps the circlip has come off the barrel allowing the linkage to fall off, or the hole in the link has worn round. I've had a Mk1 for 29 years with no problems, and I don't know of any weakness in the locking system.

Can you lock the drivers door from the inside, and lock the passenger door from the outside?

It doesn't solve your problem, but might enable you to lock the car while you are out and about.

I have a Mk1 and dont know of a common problem. If the key just rotates then check the rod is properly attached from the barrel to the lock. It is held on by a starlock push on washer.
