[QUOTE=jleyton;161461]What did you use on the end of your hammer drill to keep it on the stud?
    /QUOTE
Good morning Julian, I had an old SDS chisel that I ground the end of and made it into a screwdriver to fit inside the nut. A nut was put on the first few threads of the stud just to stop the screwdriver sliding off.
I was careful grinding the chisel but I obviously softened the metal as it was a bit bashed after the last stud. I am sure someone on here could come up with something better. Also I thing the SDS drill is more powerful than sonnet's air gun.

Hi Guys, The heads are back from the machine shop, valves ground in, and I am starting to assemble them. Never done an overhead cam before. Tried to look at the Stag repair manual on the Don Kennedy site but it has gone.
My question is should the tappets be set up with the shims oiled or dry. I appreciate that it will not make a great deal of difference. Somewhere in the grey matter I remember a small BL booklet on the Dolomite Sprint engine and I think that it said that they should be dry.
      All advice welcome.

I don't think it will make any difference wet or dry unless you are using VERY thick oil, the pressure of the valve springs as you turn the engine will squeeze any oil out anyway

Hi Neil, thank you for your reply. I hunted high & low for that booklet yesterday but could not find it. Last night in bed I remembered an article in some BL notes, checked them today and there it was.
It is advisable to adjust the clearance with the valve gear dry. When the adjustment has been satisfactorily carried out lubricate the valve gear with clean gear oil. The use of an E.P. oil prevents the oil draining away during reassembly.
Like you I cannot see it making much difference but the comment about E.P. oil is interesting.
