What a super set of stories. Perhaps they would make the basis of a good article for the club mag?

1972 was my first viewing of a Stag, It belonged to a friend of my brothers and he was an RAF officer always well dressed and seemed to always have the attractive woman on his arm or in the Stag not sure which attracted me more now come to think of it.
However some years ago on a Sunday with the now wife and in-laws in the car we had just had Sunday lunch in a pub and were driving down the old A4 near Avebury, nice stretch of road when I came across a Stag travelling in front of me it was a lovely day and the occupants of my car were all now asleep and while I was following the Stag it was weaving around on the road it would straighten up for a while then start weaving again so I held back thinking some one had just come out of the pub as well perhaps but then the cause of the weaving became apparent when a lovely young lady sat back up in the passenger seat of the Stag.
Well I've got the Stag now!!!!

I was a journeyman fitter in Alloa Scotland it was around 1975 and we had a new sixty foot shaft grinder to be installed at work. The rep from England showed up in a dark blue stag, I thought what a car after riding in it that was it. I ended up with a MK1 Capri the same colour with the V6 sunroof auto all black interior it was almost the car. When asked 'what's your favourite car ?" It would always be the Stag, I moved across the pond and years past then three years ago out of the blue I got one, had it transported from Florida to California, the wife said where did this come from I said its a long story, cross that one of the bucket list still smiling.

        cheers Stuart

In 1970 I went to Loxhams Triumph dealership in Blackpool to place an order for a new Mk3A Spitfire with overdrive.
The cost I think was somewhere in the region of £800 to £900, and I had just sold a Mini-Cooper beforehand.
In Loxhams showroom that day was a newly announced white Triumph Stag which I thought looked absolutely stunning,
but it was more than double the price of the Spitfire, so well out of my price range.
I said to myself "I'll have one of those one day" but it took until 1994 for the dream to become reality.
Everything comes to him who is prepared to wait they say

Earls Court, 1970, thought the "T" bar a bit strange but fell in love and got used to it very quickly.

About 1970, about 4 years old in a BL dealer, I tried to cuddle one by climbing up its front bumper in the showroom. Got a smack from dad! He signed up for another Toledo!

Then saw a white one by the sweet shop, left with its engine running.... I was about 6 so couldnt steal it!

Saved enough money to buy one when I was 18 or 19. (KUS189N) rough runner in White with a light blue interior.

Sold it after a light rear end incident and bought another which is still with us.

Agree with the jag / aston comments.

Other fantasy cars include xk120 roadster, citroen ds, rs2000 mk1, cooper bristol, gordon keeble, lancia fulvia, pagoda mercedes, heckfosse mercedes, w111 mercedes coupe (the convertibles roof is too untidy!) and probably many more. (nearly all got thin 'a-posts' in common)

              But the stag was first.

I think my first look at a real Stag, as opposed to a photo, was the first one I went to look at when I had decided to buy one!

I had always wanted to own a classic from before I was old enough to drive. In my mid 30's I finally decided to take the plunge into classic car ownership. My initial brief to myself was that it had to be British and Sporty. Shortlist was MGB, TR6 and Stag. The Stag won through as it was the most practical of the three, having four seats. The second Stag I looked at I bought as I couldn't wait any longer! Probably not a particularly wise move, but many £'s later I still love it and the rolling Resto is coming along nicely.

I remember them in Victoria Road, Fenton! I used to do the same as you, but also at Tim & Zoe Randles in Campbell Road who were Lotus dealers where I was goggled eyed when the Elite, Eclat and Esprit first came out - they were like something from the space age.

I've really enjoyed reading these Stag reminiscences, - more please! I wish I could remember when/where I saw my first Stag but I can't remember!

For me it was about the summer of 1997 as an apprentice. I worked for a Rootes dealer but we took on any passing trade, I did the water pump on a Magenta car, this also involved repairing the block with "Belzona" an approved BL repair. Job done I went for the obligatory road test, roof down of course and whilst burbling along I pushed in the 8 track cartridge sticking out the Radiomobile player only to hear Neil Diamond start singing "Beautiful noise" that was the moment, I was hooked.

It took many years and many cars which included a compromise when I had a thing for Rover SDI's, I had 5 in total.

Anyway, I got to 50 and decided that life was too short and with a push from my wife took the plunge and as they say the rest is history.

                    Ian.

I would also add that when I bought my own car one of the first things we did was relive that Neil Diamond moment

No idea when I first saw a Stag. All my brothers are older than me, the eldest is now 51, he had all sorts of cars in the early 80s before joining the army, remember MK2 cortinas, Hillman Hunters, Anglias, one that really sticks out though was his Triumph MK2 2.5. Light blue Auto, very nice car but he never had a Stag. The first time got to have a ride in one was about 7 years ago, I had an MGB GTand my mate had a white Stag, took me for a spin and I was hooked. A few months later I sold the B and bought my Stag, had it 6 years now.

                          want one

first cut the picture out of a mag and stuck it on my bedroom cupboard door along with a cortina1600 E piccy, think the stag was H reg so would be around 1970.later on when i was married, my next door neighbour had a red one and used to park it on his drive opposite my back door, the sound between the houses was orgasmic !! sadly it came to a wholly avoidable end when the oil light came on and AA man said "it's ok to drive just a dodgy sender" well guess what tonto, it bloody WASN'T and the V8 seized never to run again made me determined to have one though
