Drew.
Totally agree with you this is only the second one I have ever seen. Remember the advert in the Ford delership when it came out and I think the AA (when it was for motorists) had an article in the "Drive "magazine about it.
Is it worth the £48K? Who knows, its worth as much as any one is prepared to pay for it. I wonder if they will offer a "test drive"!!!

Damn I love those cars the ultimate forest racer until some plonker allowed 4WD and ruined the spectacle. Matching number restored muscle cars sell for much more than this in the US and they were pretty crap basic cars (with big engines) . Some of the worst cars made anywhere in the World according to Caroll Shelby. Doesn't make the RS1800 price seem so bad.

Westfailings right, they were great rally cars and still are.I service with a crew in the SRC Rally Championship and there are loads of escorts still competing, not all with Ford engines, some run with the Vauxhall Red Top engine because it is big power for less bucks.
If you are building a Mk2 Escort for serious competition 50K might do it, but then it would take a barrowload more than that to put a new Subaru together.
Personally, I still think the Escort looks the mutts nuts at full chat in a forest.
Interestingly, there is a Dolly Sprint competing with a Rover V6 which looks good and trundles round spectacularly as well.
