    Back Firing Stag

    Hi guys Stag running Rough Missing Plus intermitent backfire When warm, Coil seems HOT and Rev counter stopped working .Do you think coil chage good place to start Thanks Doug 2008

      I was going to say.

      A friend had a Dolly Sprint with a similar issue on points. It turned out to a combination of a tired distributor and a new poor quality condenser (was short circuiting).

        Hi, On a recent long run here one of the guys driving a Stag with a 6 cylinder GMH engine installed starting getting very bad misfires when asking for power, even just going up hills.
        Turned out that the fuel filter was blocked, changed the filter - problem solved!! Yes, I was dubious at first but it certainly fixed the problem. We zoomed home till my coil bombed - then my car woudl not start at all - no spark - new coil fixed that & it started first turn.

          Hi Doug, the coil often gets hot to the touch, so that's no guide, try substitution, they're cheap enough. Is the backfire on the overrun ? Martin.

            Hi thanks for intrest Changed plugs now ok but rev counter gone awolNB Plugs had V burnt in centre electrode

              some plugs have the v formed in the electrode from new ,i assume its something to do with spark managment or other.......

                Were they NGK BP5E plugs by any chance?
                ZF 4 spd box, Datsun shafts, SS exhaust, 38DGMS weber 158.9bhp, BMW MC Tomcat seatssigpic

                          I had the same symptoms as that last year. After checking all of the for mentioned items, it turned
                          out to be a hairline crack in the distributor cap. Replaced the distributor cap and then all was fine.
