Another e-petition but this time regarding the disposal of scrap metal for cash. In the industry that I work in lives are being put at risk due to the theft of cabling etc.

Im sorry but i cant sign this. I sold all my scrap steel for cash in hand to a reputable scrap dealer and kept the cash in my pocket. I don't see the need for this to change. the banks will be the ones who make money from cashing small cheques and then the Government will take tax from any interest that accrues (not much but there is always something the government will charge me for) and then it wont be worth me going to the scrap merchant. I will end up ditching the scrap or taking it to the council tip for nothing and paying more in my council rates for them to dispose of.
Sorry for this but I dont see the need to spoil a simple non red tape thing becasue some people create an issue.

WQuite right 73 stagman, there is enough red tape and political crap as it is. Everytime the clowns in power interfere it generally ends up a cluster fu**.
Far better to get the polis off their backsides and catch the buggers at it.

28Ks worth of cable stolen just last week, all from remote sites leaving the sites in a dangerous condition for guys like us that work on them. Policing the sites and alarming them is difficult as they are very remote and in rural locations. Weve also had safety grids over deep chambers stolen. The insurance pays out occasionally but guess who ends up paying for that in the long run. Luckily this a free country so its your choice not to sign the petition.

I understand your problem honestly. We had our new building broken into and all the network cable stolen. Unfortunately we had to pay the bill and then reinforce our security systems. We leave NO valuable scrap outside we have a permanently locked gate day and night and all of us have security clearance to get into our works property. The cost is crazy but we have to foot the bill... at least my bosses do.
Its a hassle but it works

The thieving gits don't fear the consequences of being caught,if draconian methods were used (perhaps chopping there thieving mits off) then and only then will these types think before they steel stuff.......rant over now!

I've been a Construction Engineer and Site Manager for nearly 40 years and thieves are undoubtedly a real pain and do create problems which are tough to deal with, but i found the greatest difficulty and timewasting on site was caused in overcoming half arsed legislation created by ill informed elected clowns dreaming up new wheezes to cause more paperwork and tickboxing.
Legislation created for papertrailing scrap won't stop thieving. After all, despite laws and regulations we still get drunk drivers, uninsured drivers, tax dodgers, clowns fiddling expenses etc

We've also suffered many incidents of cable and metal theft at work. Unfortunately the local scrap dealers seem willing to buy anything from any rogue that turns up in a white Transit pick-up. The proposals look sensible, I don't see why payment by cheque would cause too much red tape, so petition signed.
