Where were all the classics this weekend?

    Hi All

My son and I have been visiting my parents this weekend which involved a 350 mile round trip from Cheshire to Cambridgeshire. Our chosen transport for the trip was the GT6 given that there was just the two of us and that car being a 2 seater. I did not see a single other classic vehicle out on the roads despite all the sunshine and total lack of road salt. Where was everybody? I did see one historic vehicle which was a 1943 GMC artillery truck but as that is owned by my brother that doesn't really count. He took me out for a short spin in it but the trip was cut short when the oil hose to the oil pressure gauge split and it started to spew hot oil all over the engine bay! He ended up being recovered home as he didn't have a spare with him.

I took the opportunity to take a few photos of the Wyton / Warboys area.

    1) the little and large show!
    2) Canberra gate guardian at RAF Wyton
    3) anybody know a good stone mason?!

    Bruce

P.S. I hope the Stag is not sulking after being left in the garage all weekend!

We were driving back from shopping this afternoon (sadly in my eurobox) and found ourselves following a fabulous looking old red convertible Ferrari, hood down, on a 1966 D plate. Not sure which flavour it was so googled it when I got home and I reckon it was a 275 GTB spyder. What do you reckon that is worth! It was a bit smokey but sounded great. I had SWMBO and SWMBO Junior in the car and there were four upwardly rolled eyes when I turned the radio off and opened my window to listen to it!

There was three Stags and a few TVR at the Ace Cafe today. Also see making lots of noise in the centre of London and in the case on one, going sideways down a dual carriageway!!!

I went for a blast around in mine today with the hood down (in late November, incredible!) The only other classic I saw was a 1980s Lotus which looked pretty well immaculate.

Glad to hear that I wasn't the only one out and about enjoying the top down weather or in our case top open!

Who said old cars aren't economical on fuel? Having just sat down and worked out our mpg for the weekend, our 2 litre straight six GT6 has averaged 35.5mpg over a 322 mile period. The majority of the journey was on motorways and duel carriageways at speeds of between 70 and 80mph, plus 30 odd miles pottering around the local area. On a similiar journey our Stag returns 30mpg.

                        Well chuffed.

I saw two classic cars this weekend (Maybe 3). 2 of which are on my drive (the Stag and the 205 GTI (arguably)), and a yellow RV8 Stag at the paintshop.

A trip to the other size of Warwickshire stopped play with the Stag. Above 50mph it is near enough unbearable to drive, and probably not healthy. Until I sort out the severe vibration it is being severely restricted on where it can go.
