Well behaved Stag

Just spent a long weekend in the Midlands clocking up 500 miles round trip from Eastbourne and averaging 28mpg. Went prepared for any eventuality but I am thrilled to say that the Stag behaved really well apart from one brief glitch when the idle speed stuck at 2000rpm (which righted itself). Didn't see any other classic cars, let alone Stags, so no competition for the 2nd looks. Also passed the 30,000 mile mark on the way home.

Thank you for that post Simon, something positive for a change the glitch was probably a sticking carb piston.

Its trips like this that decrease the paranoia.

I'm sure you have the Weber kit like mine, I had to file my throttle linkage down as it fouled the inlet manifold. I also found that a return spring was a good addition to ensure consistent low idling.

Thanks Martin and John for comments. Yes, it is the Weber - the problem only happened briefly within 10 minutes of starting my homeward journey only lasted a minute (not resolved by flicking the accelerator) and then didn't recur.

I had a four hour drive from Reading to north of Norfolk a week ago - easily the longest I have taken (have only owned the car for sixth month), and in fact the first run out in nearly a month (knackered clutch). Bottles of water - check. Oil - check. Phone fully charged - check. Breakdown paperwork - check. Oh ye of little faith - a completely eventless drive which solidified my faith in Stagatha.
