Recommendation in NW, W.Midlands and Wales
Living in Shrewsbury, I find myself a long way from the Stag specialist repairers frequently mentioned in SOC Forum and magazine.
Following my recent experience, I can strongly recommend those who live in the Shropshire, Cheshire, West Midlands, N.Wales areas who need service or repair to contact Furrows of Shrewsbury. Although they represent Ford and other franchises from modern premises they employ a number of technicians they recruited when the Rover empire expired.
I recently entrusted my Stag to them to remove both cylinder heads and replace with reconditioned units supplied by me and rectify leaky J type overdrive. I would stress that I supplied all the parts necessary.
I asked to speak to the technician who would work on my car. His name is Graham and he is mature enough to have served his apprenticeship with a BL dealer in the 70s and actually worked on Stags. Indeed, I have since found out that the majority of techs employed by Furrows are approaching retirement having served with Furrows most of their working lives. A fine recommendation.
Not only did I get my Stag back running sweeter than ever with no leaks into the V, and no leaks from the o/d. I also had a free comprehensive health check and full valet.
The cost - 10 hours x £60 per hr + VAT. Remember that this included removal of 2 heads including the expected sheared head studs!!!!
Next jobs include timing chains and diff recon and guess where I'll be taking my Stag.
