Nothing to do with the re-trim. This time I managed to get in touch with a former owner of my '73 MOD Stag.

Good on you Richard.
I've got the details of previous owners from DVLA and keep meaning to do what you've done but I just never get round to it. Maybe your success will spur me on to do it. I'm just a bit worried that some of the previous owners may no longer be with us and I don't want to upset relatives
On the other hand, I know that my old Stag is still registered and I'd like to contact the owner, however the DVLA won't reveal the details. I suppose I can understand this but I would have thought that they'd be even more sensitive about giving out the list of ALL previous owners of my current car
Cheers

i did this with my landrover series 3
1 st was BT, from 83 -93,
bought by a trader sold to Stephen Cogswell, local farmer moved away about 5 years ago, that was from 93- 2000
then bought by a couple to tow their boat ( i have the sale receipt. )Shes sent me a load of pictures and has many memoriesher partner passed away was then sold to a good friend in 2008 -2011 i then bought it from him in April of this year.
i have basically got a complete history of a land rover and that's rare!
AS for getting the Info from the DVLA, i used the excuse that i needed the info as i wqas planning to restore the landy and as its yellow it meant it could have been AA / BT and i needed to know so that i could restore it to the original spec HOWEVER as your paying a £5 fee a man at the DVLA did tell me that simple being the current long term owner is a valid Reason to was the info!

I've looked on the DVLA website and can't find anything relating to paying £5.00 to obtain details of your car's previous life.
Can anyone who has been down this route show me what part of the DVLA I should approach?
In addition, does SOC disclose any details of whether a car has been in the club previously or not?

Hi Peter,
If I remember correctly, it was this form that I used: http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_065303.pdf
Cheers

That's the form i used, took two weeks, when you get the info, send the letters recorded (to be signed for) then you will Know if they are at that address or not, or you will not know if they recieved it. Also put your address on the back so you get a returned letter if delivery fails.

How did you word the letter, I've planned to do this for a while but I'm concerned that it might cause upset if a previous owner is no longer with us.
It would be useful if the club had a generic letter or enquiry form we could send off, it wouldn't seem quite so personal then for initial contact.
