new fuel pump

having a nightmare fit new fuel pump yesterday, expected car to start first time all day saturday trying to start went back to basics
checking all connections etc, still woudnt go. after a few turns today running nice, not sure what i have done wrong,does the pump need priming or is there
another problem. not sure whats more annoying at mo car or the wife.

Is the pump ticking Glyn? As I said I'm my earlier post I had exactly the issue you originally described, and it was a poor connection at the inertia cut off switch.

When I initially fire my car up for the first time (and not used for a few days) I generally give the car around 30 seconds for the fuel pump to fill up the floats. I generally start the car once the ticking stops.

But as said, is it ticking?

After your info, first thing i checked connections and cleaned switch, still not sure why did not start yesterday but went ok today,starting to realise not as reliable as my first stag
back in 76. im still enjoying at mo, looking forward to meet with you guys so any time weather ok or when you all next meet please let me know if car ok will be there.

pump was ticking constantly which made wonder weather there was a air lock or somthing else

Ok so yesterday it was ticking, but were you getting fuel to the filter in the engine bay? How clean is the filter?

pump ticking ok took pipe off at fuel filter and fuel seemed to flow ok , but just would not go. As a simple painter my knowledge of older
cars is limited so will probably pester you lot more as time goes on.

same again this week replaced in line fuel filter, would not start saturday, first time start today it seems to like sunday
for some reason, also saw a stag pass my place about four ish today looked like red (farlington) anyone know?

Glyn, the normal starting procedure is to switch on ignition, wait for ticking to stop then give it a go. If the ticking does not stop then either the pump is having a fit, or the carbs are over filling with fuel (flooding).

As I wrote before, I installed a Japanese MITSUBA petrol pump - a "build in and forget about it" item, not cheap, but ver reliable.

That's a bummer.

I reckon you saw me as I was going through Farlington at about that time. Magenta could look red (takes time to spit!!!) in the fading light
