    Sump plug thread size

    Hello,

I would like first to congratulate you for this excellent forum and thank you for the excellent LD parts address. I'm new here and this is my first post, I just bought a 1972 US Triumph Stag with air con after 7 years with an E-type 4.2 1968 I just sold. I would like to add an oil temp gauge and buy a sump plug adaptor to add a sender on the back as I already have a pressure sender on an adaptor on the engine's pressure switch plug. They just have metric at Demon Tweeks, so which one would be the closest ? Do you also know if it's possible to find a sucking electric fan to fit between the engine and radiator as the air con radiator is already on the front.

    Thanks for your attention

    Tony

    Hi Tony

First welcome to the forum, there's a mind of information here and im supprised no one has got back to you yet.

As for the fan have you done a search on the forum as i seem to remember there was some discusion on this some time ago.........I will check with a friend who has got air con fitted and also got a kenlow fan fitted in front of the radiator.

3/8" x 18 Dryseal. Dryseal thread is also known as NPTF, which is an American National Pipe Thread (NPT) with a modified thread flank to make it seal without a sealant, and this becomes a NPTF (F= Fuel) thread.

Hello Tony and welcome to the forum.

In the box on the top right, enter 'Oil/water temp gauge' to see a related thread that ran in october of this year. It is common to fit a combined oil and water temperature gauge to stags as a replacement for the water temperature gauge. By using the associated adaptors and a drilled (exchange) water transfer housing, you can retain the low pressure switch that is located on the oil pump.

I hope that is of some help.

        Duncan, Skye.

          Duncan,

I think he's looking to fit an oil temperature gauge and transmitter, not an oil pressure gauge and transmitter, which he already has fitted. Or is there a combined Oil Temperature/Water Temperature gauge out there?

Whoops! Now that I've read Tony's post properly I see what he meant, not what I thought he meant.

            No, I don't know about a combined temp/temp gauge.

            Sorry about the confusion.

I've had a word with a mate and in front of his radiator he's got the air con, oil cooler and kenlow fan.....Although it's a bit tight as he put's it, but it does all fit.

Thanks Roger, would you know by any chance, which type/size did he fit ? It's not gonna mess with the fans which are on the air con radiator ?

                Regards

Sorry guys, maybe it was a little confusing, you understood well, the oil pressure gauge is already fitted, with an adaptor where the oil pressure switch is located. Now I'd like to add an extra gauge, an oil temperature gauge with this time the adaptor and sender on the oil sump plug.

                  Regards

                  Tony

Hi, To fit a tapped boss to the sump of my engine, I run a good holesaw through the sump wall, cleaned/flushed ou the debris, braised on the boss using inert Argon gas to flood the engine internals to prevent any fire or explosion. I have used this method on several different engines(including Stag) now with out any problems.
                    Cheers Ian A

TonyC, (if you're still with us), not sure what your oil temperature sensor thread is, but 1/8" NPT is a common thread and the one of the Stag oil pressure sensor. In that case this is probably the sort of baby you want:

No guarantees - thread data for the Stag is from the repair manual

Hi Tony, welcome. Ref the fan, fitting a suck fan is the most efficient, but that means removing the viscous unit, not a good idea if like me, you favour belt and braces on an old car. If you do an online search, you'll find the adaptor you need, I just can't remember where. Kit car sites are a good option, car builder solutions, Ratsport and so on The sump plug is a taper fit, so I doubt any standard threads will fit, I believe it may be a gas size. Good luck, it IS out there. Martin.

Back again. I have found a combined water temp/oil temp gauge, but unfortunately it is a digital one and therefore a bit out of carachter.

But here's the info just in case: http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p5...duct_info.html

                          With best wishes,

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum. You could try 'Limora' a German Classic Car company who have a website in English. They have a couple of Oil Temp gauges, see below. It is quite likely that they will have the rest of the set up. Drop them an e-mail. I found them helpful when I lived in France.

Another option, combined oil pressure and temperature.
