I've got an awfully bad feeling that that last post is going to take us down the good old "liability" route. Why not just leave be? Does it really matter if the stuff gets around the world?

One day someone will download the stuff and flog it on a CD maybe, but does that matter in the big scheme of things? I see someone is selling a Stag CD with a Rimmers Illustrated Parts Catalogue on it - that's naughty! Useful, agreed; but naughty!

When I wrote the article on replacing the HRW elements I did so under the full knowledge that I was promulgating information for the use of anyone who could benefit from it. Although copyright is generated automatically there was never a question of any fee being paid, so commercial interest does not exist. The source branding is therefore only of use should anyone in the future want to check on some point with the author or bring an advancement in technology or better technique to his/her notice. If commercial value were at stake, then the Club would probably want to protect the ownership of the article through some structure of controlled realease, properly branded etc, but the presence of an article on an open forum tends to run counter to that. If the Club wanted to claim some form or title, I cannot see it having value other than through the warm glow of attribution but for me, the article was written for anyone to read, and in the knowledge that we do have external visitors to the forum.

I think the spirit of co-operation that is the ethos of the forum has the prominence here and that any authors wishing to have an article published on it should do so knowing that the work is open to all, which I guess is the meaning of a forum. Having the authors name appended serves the purpose mentioned above and I suppose that on balance, having the Club's dabs on it may do no harm either, for when some articles do get 'liberated' it may spread awareness of the existence of the Club, but all the caveats under which it is published should provide protection for the Club, leaving only an indication of the source.

At least that's my view of it.

      Duncan, Skye.

I was only thinking in terms of a bit of promotion for the club. I don't mind where it goes. We (Duncan !) has put in the hard work why not acknoledge that Stag technical information has come from the foremost Stag club? If we really need to go all PC and add a liability statement then so be it. Is it really that big a problem?

You're quite right Dave. In my reply, I was trying to set out the likely position for any future authors. They shouldn't mind who reads it, as it is an open forum. And if the club can get some kudos from it, so much the better.

How about e.g: "prepared by StagnJag of the Stag Owners Club Forum" ?

That way there is some recognition of the originator, a trail back to be able to contact him/her, a mention of the SOC Forum, and none of the business where the SOC gets the well-known liability cold feet.

If you only see 4 sections you are now 2 sections short.are you sure you cant see at least 5 which have been avaliable for quite some time.

                    Cheers Steve

If you can't see the new technical section, try logging out and logging back in again to refresh the cache (think thats right??)
