    Xmas Day Meltdown?

It had to happen on Christmas day didnt it

Had just put the turkey in the oven, and an hour later we noticed it wasnt really hot. When I opened the oven there were some sparks coming from the fan area. After that, no heat at all, end of.

Here is the heater element; and the oven is only 3 years old.

        Chris.

You could use some heatsink compound to conduct the heat away . Then check that fan is rotating at correct speed.

Three years ago on Xmas Eve, we returned from friends in the village where I live, to see water running down the main street of the village from a burst water pipe. We didn't think much of this as it used to to be a common event a few years ago for all in the village. However, at about 1000 on Christmas day, the electricity in the village went down; the water from the burst pipe had found the main electricity supply; the turkey was only a couple of hours into its cook and we were well and truly stuffed! What made it worst is that there is only electricity in the village (no gas) which meant that we had no heat, no power, no lights etc. So you have my sympathies V Mad, I've been there

Got a new element today, now fitted and working again. My theory of failure is that a flap of cooking foil may have partially blocked the fan aperture, and caused the element to overheat and burn out. We will have to be careful with that next time!

                    Hi Chris

Ruddy heck how did you salvage the day? did you manage to make some sort of Xmas dinner?.As for the element I'm a commercial oven engineer it looks like just the insulation breaking down on the element I've seen a few do that and for no reason a lot of the time.Glad you've got it fixed now hope you have a cracking New Years to make up for it.

Hi Si. Fortunately my son lives nearby, so we rushed the old turkey over there. Three hours later we dropped off the veg and collected the turkey, then final trip to collect roast veggies. All in all not a bad dinner.

But I now know what its like to run a meals on wheels service!

                      Cheers!
