    poly bushes

hi everyone , thanks for all the help so far , my first worry today was finding the altinator fitted on my stag is without the two connections needed for the brown spade and brown and yellow as well as the multi conector , i have now ordered a new part !
My next quest is to fit poly bushes before i start anything else , its had a good report from the inspection today with a a couple needing replacement so i,m thinking let get them all done , i need two drive shaft seals too Any tips for those !
I have looked on ebay and looked at forums at dif colours representing feel and performance !
Does anyone know a good product , i would like to buy a complete set as it seems a better deal !
    Much love edd

    Hi Edd,

Although I've not fitted polybushes, it seems that Chris Witor is highly regarded (http://www.chriswitor.com/) and he's not far from you so you'd be doing your bit for local business

As for general parts - and this is my personal opinion only - I always check out LDparts first of all (http://www.ldpart.co.uk) - top man ! - and then go to Rimmer brothers or James Paddock.

    Cheers

I have been very pleased with Superflex poly bushes. But others may be as good? the only thing I would say is do not fit rubber in my opinion the quality seems to be pretty lousy these days.

I don't know if the price is or quality any good , but might be worth a look.

I have had superb results with Superflex from Chris Witor, and also with Polybush on a 2.5PI. I think my preference would be Superflex though personally...

I think they are different companies. I would guess the only difference is the hardness of the poly

The superflex poly bushes have stainless inserts,I'm not sure if the others have s/s or are just mild steel which may deteriorate more quickly.

We are talking about 1970's BL quality and so rubber quality was always to be questioned lol

In fact, Superflex make a big thing of their inserts being Stainless Steel in their adverts, suggesting that at least some others are not SS.

Edd, Superflex are based near Wells, in Somerset, so not that far from you.

Have received my new poly bushes from Paddocks for the whole back end(superflex),fell like good quality, not cheap thou'.....they have sent bushes with extra holes in,I seem to remember reading this was an improvement to help soften the ride/reduce harshness, will begin ass'y soon ,but along way off trying them out!

The difference between a cheap set of bushes (Poly or rubber) and good quality bushes (like the Superflex items) is quite vast.

On my old MGB (a dirty word here I know) the ride improved vastly with the Superflex bushes over the stock rubber items. Probably the first (and only) 'B I have driven with a half decent ride quality from the rear of the car.

In comparison a friend who bought a Dolomite Sprint on cheap Poly Bushes was nothing but a nightmare over poorly surfaced roads.

That sounds like the 'voided' bushes. Just as you say, the extra holes help improve NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness)

                          Cheers

                            Ramp or stands ?

Another question has anyone lowered the rear subframe to replace most bushes whilst car is on stands. I have a very good friend who has offered to do this for free on his ramp but I would like to clean paint parts and inspect then repair so I'm afraid I can't tie up his ramp for that long so I might do this all myself and get the car up on stands as high as poss. Easy job or is ramp essential ? I'm going to purchase complete Superflex kits from ej ward as it seems to make sense to buy and save 10% on individual bushes

Ps My friend has a stag in his paint shop that can only be described as better than new. He shall remain nameless £25000 plus it has brought me into reality as a four year build is incredible and seeing every single nut bolt pipe weld in place was a sight to behold. I still love my baby though lol
