Stag blog. Triumph Stag: Time for a rub down Meguiars style
Very interested to read that you had bought the Meguiars clay thingy as I had some given to me as a present, but as yet, have not used it. To be honest, I thought that it just seems such a faff, but you have inspired me!
I must add that the colour combination of your Stag looks absolutely gorgeous. The blue exterior really sets off your new interior and vice versa.
superb finish and colour combination there,I would think er indoors would be well chuffed to be allowed to sit in it now ! clay bars are a magic bullet in my opinion and the finish achieved pre waxing is better than most waxed cars. happy new year to all.
My wife did indeed provide a 6 speed orbital polisher for my Xmas, I had hinted back in july that it was a must have item, but unfortunately she decided that a pair of trainers and a T shirt were required to tidy me up for the summer.
Anyway now I have it all be it a little later than I wanted.
Now I am at the point where I am ****ting myself as far as using it is concerned. I really don't know what kind of compound to use to remove all those swirls from my paint work. The car sparkles like a diamond, but the numerous swirls let it down especially in direct sun light.
Would you guys use one of those very fine cuttingcompounds or do as Richard has done and use the Maguires wonder juice
Mike,
try the Meguires first orbital buffing can get you in a world of hurt really fast and burn paint. I use Meguires products and they are good the detail stuff I let the pros do it they have all the gear that would cost you more than what its worth to but it and do it yourself, once the car is done you just have to maintain it.

Hi i valet/detail cars for a living, you should be ok with the orbital, most burn through happens when you use a rotary machine, always use the least aggresive compounds & polishing heads first & step it up if needed.Another thing to be aware of would be the edges(tops of wings, wheel arches ect) only apply light pressure to these areas or tape them up to prevent going through,i have found that using 3M ultrafina on a medium cut polishing pad will remove most swirls & add a deep gloss to the paint work, then use a soft finishing pad with the 3M ultrafina to further enhance the finish, once you have finished this stage a glaze/polish & coat of carnuba wax should seal in all your hard work.Hope this might help Rich
Spured on by Richard's antics called into Halfords today and found that they have the T Cut CLay Bar kit in the clearance section - Was £21.99 reduced to £10 so a bit of a bargain - bought two, so will wait until the weather improves and give it a go.
