    My lucky day?

Spent the last month replacing heater (and again when it leaked), timing chains and overhauling water pump along with replacing stat to see if my cooling mods worked. Put it back together last weekend and fired it up. Came up to temperature fine and looked and sounded good so retorqued manifold and put it to bed.

Yesterday put dash in properly and tidied up a few bits before a trial down the road. Temp up to normal after 2 miles, then continued up in to the red - panic! Stopped and engine wouldn't even tick over - but everything looked okand didn't feel unduly hot so chanced it home. Pulled away, fuel light blinkedwith 3/4 showing on gauge...the clue!

At home released dashboard and temp gauge returned to normal and fuel to 1/4. Presume something had shorted out the voltage dropper when I pushed the dash in - any ideas what? Oh and the tickover problem was because I hadn't pushed reconnected engine breather after tightening manifold.

If temp and fuel guages are overreading it is probably the voltage stabilser which is duff - just replace with a new one, shouldn't break the bank.

    cheers...Andy

Eventually found out what it was - the earth to the speedo wasn't connected - pulling the dash partway out rested the speedo on the metal dash surround, took me a while to spot it tho as of course problem returned each time I put it back!
