    Indicators on the blink

Happy New Year Everyone! I wonder if anyone can help me with an electrical problem on my Stag. When I picked up my Stag in September last year, all the indicators were working but a few weeks ago, one side packed in and in the last week, so have the other side; actually what happened was that both sides were working well but one side would not work when I put my dipped lights on (dipped and main beam). Where I am now is that all the front and rear indicators will light up, whether the dipped/full beam lights are on or off, but neither front nor rear will blink.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this?

I am assuming that your battery is well charged and charging system is OK? If so, I would start by replacing the flasher unit. Sounds like it wants a lot of volts to work.

It sounds as if the flasher unit has packed up due to an underlying fault which I would guess is a bad earth.

Start by cleaning all the indicator contacts but you may have to change the flasher unit before testing.

If you have Hazards, do they flash?

Thanks guys; I tested the battery yesterday and it read 12.4 V, and the reason I did this was because the Stag is taking quite a few"goes" to fire her up and I suspected the battery was at fault (the on board voltmeter was reading about 11 V). Once driven or warmed up, she fires first time. I suspected that this was caused by an unrelated and currently unknown problem. Sounds like the first job is to get an new flasher unit.

Good point, I looked everywhere for a Hazards switch but I don't seem to have one; is this because my Stag is an early Mk1 (LD55, but heavily modified)

              Steve.

I would suggest an electronic one from LD parts. Connects to your existing wiring, you just need an additional earth wire.

Hello Steve, hazards wouldn't have been fitted as standard on your car - the later cars have them and the switch is on the dashboard near the rev counter.

Personally I would have a quick clean -up of the connectors on the stalk as that might do the trick and, if not, get a new flasher unit.

Totally agree - it worked for me. Here it is: http://www.ldpart.co.uk/shop/shop.php?c=viewproduct&pid=194&cat=25&sid=sid3725c ca8ae9df9e2056e8391ab48c9f4

I wanted to finish this thread by thanking you guys for your replies and suggestion of replacing the flasher unit- you were absolutely right!!! Today has been the first day that I could get at the Stag and I found fitting it an absolute breeze, even for a new Stag owner and electrical numpty like myself. So I now have working indicators and I rewarded myself by taking the Stag out for a drive- shear bliss
