Kenlowe Fan twin speed adjustable temperatures

I am in the process of fitting a Kenlowe 14” twin speed fan as a back-up.

I am thinking of having the radiator modified by having a boss fitted to take a temperature sensor.

As the fan is twin speed, does anyone know who supplies a twin temperature sensor, ideally one which allows adjustment of the two temperature settings?

I am aware that I can wire the fan to operate at the higher speed but like the idea of the fan operating at the slower speed (reduced power consumption) on the first temperature setting and then increasing to full power on the second temperature setting.

If I wired the fan in accordance with the Kenlowe wiring diagram the second (high speed) setting is operated by a manual switch. But as previously mentioned I would like both speeds to be automatic based on specific temperatures. I am sure that I have read somewhere someone using a sensor from a modern car that has a twin speed fan but cannot remember where I saw it and therefore don’t know which car it came from, if it was adjustable or fixed temperatures.

Any advice or information would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Phil

If a twin sensor is unavailable perhaps you get fit two bosses and have two seperate sensors?

You can get dual temp switches. Inter motor make them but their website is most unhelpful, as they do not give switching temp, only applications. There used to be a detailed list on the web but I can't find it. Suggest you ask your motor factor to let you look at his catalogue as they back pages give more detail, at least they did when I bought mine.

The same thought crossed my mind, trouble is, two sensors doubles the cost and the aftermarket adjustable sensors are £50 plus.

I am hoping that a twin speed sensor from a ford or something will be a cheap option assuming the pre-set operating tempatures are suitable when using the Kenlowe as a back-up, i.e. coming in at a slightly higher tempature.

Thanks John, that was really helpful.

Can you remember how much your sensor cost and the temperature settings?

Are you using your fan as a back-up?

I fitted the twin speed kenlowe to my stag last year using the push into the core temp sensor it came fitted with. The second speed comes on automatically if the temp gets too high. As my Stag normally runs at about one third of the way up the gauge (I have no engine driven fan fitted), I have set the fan to come on at needle vertical. I have only once heard the second speed cut in, when I was stuck in traffic on a hot day, and I think the needle was up to about two thirds at that point. I assume there is probably a set temperature differential between the two cut in points

                Phil..

I think it cuts in at 97degrees and cost around £10.

                It's a back up.

                  Thanks Neil

My fan came with the sensor that fits into the rad via the top hose. The sensor is connected to a variable temperature controller but only operates one speed (slow or fast but not both). The second speed is operated manually.

I think I am correct in saying that the sensor you have does operate dual temperature but when I spoke to Kenlowe they said they did not provide that type of sensor for the Stag as it was difficult to fit into the radiator.

I will ring Kenlowe again on Monday, if only to find out what temperatures their senor operates at.

                  Thanks.
