Hello..I'm new to the group...so please bear with me on my Triumph Stag initiation

As you might guess I'm new to the Stag business, so new in fact that I don't actually have one ...yet..
Just to clear up any misunderstandings...the name "Bonnietiler" comes from the Motorcycle that I usually ride, although I have just bought a Rocket 111 and the job that I used to do...I thought it was clever, but you'd be surprised how many people think I some kind of 80's Welsh singer!
I really had fully intended to have a Stag by now but my Son (or "Mill-stone" as I like to call him)deposited a Ford Racing Puma with me 2 years ago and I have sort of taken it on as a project, I'm hoping to sell that later this year and put it towards my first Stag.
The FRP is currently looking superb and although they are pretty rare now what with only 500 being made, they simply just aren't a Triumph Stag.
In the past I have had 2 Dolomite Sprints and a Mk2 Vitesse Convertible, so not a complete novice, of course I have always owned Triumph Motorcycles.
Let's hope the journey is a long and enjoyable one!
    Cheers

    Hi Bonnie,

Welcome to the forum. You are certainly in the right place if you are looking at buying a Stag. There is plenty of help to be had here. The best thing to do if you are looking for a Stag is get along to your local SOC area and chat to the guys there. (Contact details of your nearest area will be in the SOC mag). They will be able to give you good advice, and maybe even come along with you to give an opinion on a prospective purchase.

    Regards

    Dave

Hello Bonnie and welcome to the forum

I liked your introduction - it's good to hear that you are such a Triumph fan - and always think that getting yourself known and involved in the forum while looking for a car is the best way to go. Cars do come up for sale on here now and agin, so it would be useful to know exactly what you are looking for - or is it totally open?

        Hi Bonnie,

Welcome from me also and I wish you success in your Stag hunt.

I happened to notice this site last night and there are 54 Stags listed on there: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/...eSearch=Search although obviously it's difficult to tell how good they are.

Do you want one that doesn't need much doing to it or are you looking for a project or something in between ?

With your Triumph car experience I'm sure you'll be just fine with a Stag

        Cheers

        Julian

Hi Bonnietiler (good name) I was inpatient to buy a Stag (5 1/2 years ago) and paid over the odds for mine, try not to make the same mistake!!!! But when you get one, keep it!

My boss has a Rocket 111, don't quite know how he rides it hough as he's quite short in the leg

Welcome. Anyone with enough balls to ride a Rocket 111 is Ok in my book. Awesome machine; I look at them and remember back to my m/c days. But there is no way you'd get me on one of those :0

Hello, I am also new to the group but don't seem to yet have permission to start a new thread.... don't understand why?? I have just collected my Stag today... 1974 MK 2 in Mimosa Yellow, couple of quick trips round the block on this bright and sunny day before tucking away in the garage, and that brings the first question.... I seem to have a water leak in the roof of the Garage and want to get a car cover to protect the car from said water leaks!! anyone got any advise on where and what to get? I am having a new garage built at home but need to protect the Stag while its in the Council garage round the corner!!

Likewise. It looked lovely with just a few bits of bubbling, but the more I looked, the more I think it was way overpriced. Still, the engine was rebuilt by Hart Racing Services so I'm hopeful of getting some fun with it despite the 114k miles on the clock. I'm slowly, as funds allow, tidying up the interior, but as for major rebuilds, that is out of my league and my wife's sympathy/patience.

                Good luck with the search.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Bonnie buys a good 'un, as I wouldn't like to think of him in his garage with the new pride and joy thinking its a heartache, nothing but a heartache

I just saw this on another Stag site it may be of interest to you, usual disclaimer don't know the car owner etc
                              hi all,

I have for sale my beloved triumph stag, it is a 1977 mk2 stag auto in racing green would be great car for any enthusiast out there called ron as the registration reads ron ***r.

the car has been in the family for about 8 years now it was my dads car and when he died 3 years ago i inherited it from him.

over the years the car has had a lot of work done starting when my dad owned it. the car was in pretty bad shape body wise my dad had the car stripped a lot of new panels and the the car was resprayed, whilst my dad had the car it suffered the typical stag engine problems it over heated blew the heads etc the car then lay up for about 18 months,

when i inherited the car i had a choice to either drop the triumph engine and drop a rover v8 in it, i was not so silly to do such a think to such an iconic car and engine so i had the engine removed and had it fully rebuilt from top to bottom the car has only done about 100 miles since this rebuiled and is still as it was when i got it back it, the engine and gear box run great very smooth no problems at all, i also had a new uprated 5 core radiator and battery fitted at the time.

last year i kept the car off the road for some general maintanence when i found a few holes in the floor the car was fully stripped out and all bad metal work was cut out and welded with new thicker metal, this included the foot wells, boot floor, rear arches, outriggers etc then the car was fully wax oiled underneath and inside to prevent the rust coming back. i have many photos of all this work and the from when the engine was rebuilt,

i do not have a hard top for the car only as the one we got with the car was rusted beyond repair and down to lack of space i never bought another plus i never had an issue as the car only ever got used when the sun was out and the roof was down.

the best way that i can discribe the car is it is not concourse but it is also not a bad example the car is in general good all round condition drives great looks even better.

there are a few thinks on the car that could do with attention like you would expect from a classic car but these are not major just the things that you would do over time all part and parcel of owning a classic.

the hood is in good condition no rips or tears,

i really dont want to lose my stag but having a young family i do not have the time or money to warrant having the stag and i do not want it to go to ruin and lose another one of these iconic sports cars from the road,

the car has a lot of great memories for me and i want it to go to a genuine enthusiaste that is going to look after it and car for it like i have and keep it on the road for many more years to come,

i am looking for around £7500.00 for the car which considering the work that has been done and the money that has been spent over the years is a very reasonable price.

i have stacks of paperwork and history including photos reciepts etc not only from while i have have had it but also from the previous owners

the car is alarmed and immobilised has stainless steel exhaust to much to list really but plenty of paperwork to back it up,

i will provide a 12 month mot with the car as i have no worries that the car will sale through the mot as it has every year i have had it.

if anybody is interested please feel free to contact me either through here or on 07854561847

                              thanks
