Bodywork in West Yorkshire

Hi to all members in West Yorkshire (or anyone who has had their Stag maintained etc in W Yorks)

I am about to spend a heck of a lot of money on having the body of my Stag done up. I haven't quite decided where to have the work done.

Has anybody had work done by Chris Baker trading as Yorkshire Restorations, in Charlestown, Baildon (near Bradford)? If so, please could they let me have a "reference" as it were?

Also, is there anywhere else worth trying? I have tried one guy who comes strongly recommended (by WY Stag members), but he feels I need the mechanics stripping out which would virtually double the cost. I am temporarily without MOT - she would certainly need some welding doing for MOT, and I could go down that route, and then have individual "little" jobs done - but she really is ready for a good seeing to.........

I can recommend a chap in Cumbria if that's any good,he has replaced 4 wheel arches with panel extensions,shot blasted 3 layers of paint off and painted/3xlaquered it and put the stripe on.The SOC NW recommended him to me and I'm V pleased with the result.PM me if interested as I realise it's not next door to you.

I've always found Peter's work to be good.

Its mostly too cold to paint cars that far norf!

On a more serious note do the welding first, and how much is a heck?

The £2,500 (+) paint is wasted on a car that still needs welding imho

Forget any paint job (paint only) that comes in less than £ 2,500 unless you are contributing to the labour.

Remember to negociate who does the windscreen removal & refit.

For me it would be Malcolm Bryan based in Castleford (01977 554127) he's a multiple Stag owner himself and has restored loads of Stags including one of mine. Can't recommend him highly enough.

A "heck" is a lot more than £2,500 - but they would be replacing both sills, driver and passenger floor, doing all four wheel arches, and half panels on the rear wings. Also needs the outriggers replacing.

What should I be paying for doing this - starting with the paint shot blasting off, all welding repairs, and then fully respraying (with engine compartment repainted, but working around the mechanics).?

What is the issue with the windscreen?
