    Carbs - Special tool S353

Can anyone tell me if this tool is essential to effect replacement of the needle adjuster 'O' ring?

I was planning to do the job this weekend but after a thorough read of the manual, I'm not sure if I will be able to remove the needle assembly from the airvalve or, much more critically replace it correctly.

    Any advice or tips?

If this is the mixture tool, no you can use a long allen key,to change the O rings, but you will need it to adjust the mixtures when the carbs are assembled and on the car or you risk tearing the diaphragms as you can't stop the piston from twisting when you adjust the needle height. If you measure the needle height first and reset them to the same position that will be near enough to get it back to where it was regards mixture.

Actually, just occurred to me; do you know what hex size. It will be hard to tell from where it is....

Thanks for the link. I think I'll order the tool & do the job properly next weekend.

I, being the cheapskate that I am, bent a bit of thin aluminium strip into an arc at one end that enages in the slot of the plunger while allowing me to insert a long allen key down the carb. It is also bent at right angles where it comes out of the carb to give me a bit of purchase.

Simple 5 minute job. Couldn't see the sense in spending too much on something that only gets used rarely. Did I mention that I'm cheap?

I'm in Corby every day. I work there! I wish I had logged on in the office today. Can I take you up on the offer next week?
