Gent's am looking for a user friendly and reasonably priced carb balancing tool, any suggestions or ideas, I believe that Gunson has been mentioned on the forum once before.
Hi Mike, have a look on ebay for what's described as a Weber carb balancer, the best about, roughly £40 but can be got for less. The Gunson one works quite well, but is fiddley and VERY fragile. Martin.
Mike.
I have one of the the old Crypton synchro check tools and one of these (ebay)140650948668 a hand held Anemometer and it works a treat, use like the normal balancer and swap from side to side to get it right it is very sensitive and does not restrict the flow that much, with a lump of bluetack its becomes a hands free unit!!.
Having never had to use a carb balancer before here's a question although it may sound stupid.
What intake/ suction reading should you be looking for or does this vary from Stag to Stag???
Hi Mike, the figure is not important, it's a means of telling if both are the same, hence, balanced. NOT a stupid question, we all start somewhere. Martin.
Ok Dave that makes sense. Managed to get the beast running pretty nicely today. Fuel overflowing stopped, as I cleaned out needle valves. Looks like I sucked up some crap from somewhere, as the inlet port behind the valve had black gunge and a small piece of paper, god knows where that came from.
Waiting for carb balancer and new timing strobe light to arrive, hopefully have the fine tuning done by the weekend.
Unfortunately can't get the throttle cable fed back through the hole in the retaining termination thingy, as the end is frayed to bu**ery, may well have to buy new cable as I can't see the end of this one going through the very small hole.
