    Original dealer brochures

    Hi,

Are there any car brochure collectors out there? when I was a young boy I used to collect them getting them normally from local shopping centres, now I am going back to the late 70's and early 80 and I have 2 that may be of interest to some Triumph fans out there...

I have a TR7 brochure that is black with a Red car on the front cover and the other brochure is called.. "The Dolomites... one of Europe's great ranges"

If any one out there is interested then let me know... they are great fun to look at and are in excellent condition.

I also have brochures for the Austin Allegro, Austin Princess, Morris Morina!!, and the Rover 3500 SD1 and finally one of my favourites and a little bit different.... 1978 Cadillac range... amazing interiors.

    Don't start me on brochures

When I was working, as a junior in the Sales department of a large Triumph dealer, back in the early 70s, I was told to clear out one of the storage cupboards. In there I found boxes of Stag brochures - I guess 200 - 250 brochures in all. When I asked what I should do with them I was told to just chuck them away.

These days you occasionally see them on Ebay for £20+ each

Isn't hindsight a bloody pain in the arse ?

    Cheers

    Julian

How funny.....I used to work in carsales for Ford Toyota and Mercedes, didn't ever bother collecting the brochures as the cars these days are not going to be quite as desired in 30 years time.. if they are still around.. can't imagine someone going all gooey eye'd over a Toyota Yarris borchure

I also used to collect Football programmes, I had so many I used to keep them in suit cases!... I went through a load last year and ended up selling them on Ebay... the guy drove around 30 miles ande paid me good money for them, a lot of them he already had but as I was and still am a season ticket holder at my beloved Spurs i had every home game programme from 1982 to the end of 1987 plus dozens from the 60's that I was given by friends/family. I even have the programme for the home game on the day I as born... its framed and on a shelf in my lads room!!

By the way everyone, I don't want any money for these car brochures... just a good home.

David I knew I liked you ...and this is further proof! I don't see them often, but one of my best memories was going to Jimmy Greaves's (my footballing hero) testamonial against Feyenoord in '72 with my Grandad.

Recently I have seen Spurs Legends play a couple of times which is a bit of a mixed experience really. It's mainly players from the 80's but I think the occassional one from the 70's and the 90's also appear- some are unrecognisable until they start to move and you see a mannerism and think "my God...thats...so and so". Although he was there in a promotional role only, I met Pat Jennings at one of them and was surprised he wasn't taller - total gentleman though.

I have many stories of meeting players... while at secondary school and on a lunch break I bumped into Gary Mabbutt, we ended up in the local Wimpy where he bought my lunch... then there is good old Gazza who lived down the road from my fathers business, I used to see him most lunchtimes in the town centre, he had at the time a Black Mercedes 190, after he busted his knee in the 1991 cup final he got out of the passanger side of LINDA LUSARDI'S Mazda RX7, I was collecting her autograph in exchange for my pay n display ticket.....he often drove past me in town tooting and waving at me shouting "alreet Dave"..... the looks I used toget from passers by were classic. the best of all though has to be the time when I was mid teens, I was playing football round the local park and Tony Galvin was there practicing his golf swing, he lived in the same village, two cars pulled up.... a Blue Porsche 944 driven by Graham Roberts and a Saab 900 Covertible driven by..........................Glenn Hoddle!!!! they walked down to Tony and then over to us and asked if we wanted a kick about....... well was there ever a more stupid question ever asked..? we ended up in two teams captained by Glenn and Tony, they picked the players they wanted and we played for and hour or so.... can't remember the score but i know I was on Hoddle's team, I shall never forget it.

I actually ended up working with Glenn's brother Carl Hoddle while being a salesman at the local Ford dealer, he was a great bloke who sadly died a few years ago... I had lost touch with him and only found out while at a home game where I read it in the Programme, he was only in his early 40's (same age as me)

Oh I also got a Chris Hughton a Thunderbird tracy Island for his Son but thats another story.....

Great stories. The early 80's side was pretty useful wasn't it?
