Counting down the days untill I pick up my stag . Now after picking up my stag do i return via fastest route( time 1 hour 22 mins) or shortest route (time 2 hours and 22 minutes) or do i just keep driving.advice please.
You will enjoy it more on A / B class roads rather than ones which are dual carriageways etc. Therefore my advice is the longer one - by the way, an hours difference in the routes means there must be a hell of a detour!

Make certain you've got recovery (common sense with a 40 year old car) and take your mobile, then just enjoy. I incline to agree with Mr 57, motorways are a bit unforgiving. Don't forget - ENJOY. Martin.
My option would be the long route. I picked up my car in Fleet and drove to Aberdeen via Watford to visit relations. Total distance around 570 miles and just under 9 hours - enjoyed every minute.

My advice would be to drive no more than half an hour before having a break, ideally in a pub or café that overlooks the car park so that you can admire your new purchase.
If you just drive and drive you won’t have time to relax and enjoy, having a short break reduces the adrenalin rush and then you can start to appreciate the car as you will feel a lot more relaxed and then just drive until you run out of petrol.

...and if you have one, a Sat Nav. so you can tell the recovery guys where you are (But I am sure you won't need them)
but then again, if you don't have a sat nave you can 'get lost' on the way home and stretch out the journey a bit longer!!!

I bought mine on E-bay, joined the AA for £39.00, and the brother in law & I flew down to Bristol to pick it up. It had a 3500 RV8 which had 2 a smooth engine speeds, tickover and 3500 rpm. 380 miles in 6 hours and 20 gallons.
Garry,
put the hood down and follow your nose, if it starts to rain, put on a hat. Enjoy!

When I bought my Stag last June, I picked it up from near Woburn. My son was in his car as a back up.
I drove up the M1 to the first services at Newport Pagnall and decided to have a coffee and adjust the seat and steering wheel more to my liking. We sat outside the Starbucks/Costa which overlooks the car park and I can't tell you how many people we saw having a look at the Stag.
We continued up the MI, then onto the M6 and came off at J14 to go cross-country home. Total journey time 1 hour and 50 minutes - and it was a great experience.
Being cautious we loaded up my son's car with various oils, tools, coolant, petrol cans etc fearing the worst, but the old girl drove like a dream on that first journey and has continued to do so ever since.
Whichever way you go Gary, you'll enjoy it. Don't forget your camera (I did) and then post us some photos.
