    Water pump

    Hello everyone, has anybody got a 6 vane water pump suitable for a 1978 stag that they would like to sell to me,a usable second hand one will be fine, I could then send it off for a refurbishment.
    I do not want to send off my own pump as i am still using the car also if it gets lost in the post that would leave me pumpless, I am a bit unlucky like that, it would be unbearable if the stag was off the road because of a lost pump that is not easy to replace as water pumps appear to be rarer than poor bankers.
    If i can get hold of a replacement pump it would be ready to fit as the old one comes out (hopefully) in case I forget how it all goes back, also space is at a premium for storing bits whilst I await the pumps return.....Steve

    I reckon a 1978 Stag would have the 12 vane pump....

      I dont know how far you want to go or spend, but this may be of interest to you?

      Brand new Stag water pump in the USA
      May be useful to someone, 6 and 12 vane water pumps found on eBay in USA 380405321742, (6 vane) and another 200656142519 (12 vane)

        Hello Dieter that's put a spanner in the works, I thought the 12 vane pump was a modification not standard, I know my engine has never been stripped so it would have the pump it was made with, nothing is ever simple is it....Thanks Steve

            Steve, the 12 vane pump became standard around engine number LF44931, so this should help you determine what you should have fitted if the limp is original.

              Hello Dave invaluable info thanks for that, my engine number is 44733 , the pump housing has writing on it, when the 12 vane covers i have seen seem devoid of any writing, so it appears i have a 6 vane pump , well in for a penny as they say.

                No problem. Just to add to your dilemma; I would prefer to remove my existing pump and, if it is in good condition (no gear wear) rebuild it. There have been so many dodgy pump shafts about that I would be wary of fitting one of indeterminate origin.

                  My head is starting to hurt Dave, I have been offered a pump via the forum just waiting for him to get back to me with a price.
                  You could look at it this way Dave as my pump is nearly 40 years old it may be ready to let go at any time or if it is refurbished perhaps the gear teeth are ready to chip or break, i have made up my mind to buy and fit a new pump, I just need to get it fitted and out of the way as its starting to do my head in...Steve
