I have built a test rig which enables me to test almost any ignition component including distrbutors (there is a short video on youtube I made when I first got the rig running a few weeks ago; now needs updating!). I have yet to get the strobe working properly so I can check the advance curve, but I hope to get that running soon, and everything else is working now. It is a live rig that runs a ballasted coil plus spark plug, off 13.8 volts DC supply. It can also test tachometers (RVI and RVC) which is very useful.
As part of my project to investigate and evaluate the performance of Electronic Advance Distributors (EADs) I have now tested a couple of electronic ignitions and compared the performance to the basic twin-points dissy. So far this includes Lumenition Optronic and Accuspark. I am sursprised by the results, and now intrigued as to how other electronic systems perform.
One that comes to mind is the Newtronic system. I have a Newtronic dissy (but the connector is missing) but no power module. If anyone has a Newtronic (or any other system I have not mentioned) that they would like tested (for free of course) please contact me and hopefully we can arrange something.
