    Percentage of Anti-freeze

    Hi Everyone,
I'm sure that this has been brought up in the past, but I couldn't find a previous post on the site.
So sorry if that's the case.
My question is what proportion of anti-freeze should I use when I drain the system?
I've seen 25% mentioned as the correct ratio to stop it freezing up, but I seem to remember that 50% was mentioned somewhere for anti-corrosion reasons.
    What's the panel think?
    Thanks,
    Frank

Get 6 pints in and you wont be going far wrong Frank.

30-35% is fine. Too much actually has a detrimental effect on cooling as anti-freeze doesn't have the same ability to cool as water does. This level is fine to prevent freezing in our weather conditions and sufficient to deter corrosion. As nib says, 6 pints (3.5-litres) is good.

There's loads of info if you want to trawl through it! Try this one for a starter:

Type 'anti freeze' into the search box, press the magnifying glass symbol, and hey presto!

Biggest anti-freeze concern is the colour.
          The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

            Hi Frank.

I use a mixture of 1 ltr of anti freeze to 2 ltrs of water, (33%) I drive my car everyday in all types of weather also been to Norway in the winter. Have had no problems with the cooling system.
The one thing I do is every year is flush the system out and put in a fresh mixture.
            Hope this helps.
            Cheers.
            Paul.

I use a 50/50 ratio mix, primarily to limit corrosion. Never had cooling problems so far, even befopre the pump was refurbed
