    hood stuck part way up

    Hi All,
New to stags, bought mine 2months ago, it's been laid-up for30yrs, i have a transporter picking it up next week.
Unfortunately, during one of my visits up to free-off brakes, sorts tyres, get keys made etc i decided to remove hard top and see what the hood was like.
Even though they appear to be free I soaked all the pivots etc in WD for a week, read the visor and had a go. Obviously got it wrong, the front rails came up and out but the rear rail is stuck below the tonneau hinges and doesnt appear to want to go back down either. Nothing has been forced.

I can see 3 bolts on either side of the frame that i imagine are some form off adjustment. Can i slacken these off or even remove them to get the hood down??

Good news, the hood looks in good usable condition

    Any other ideas!!!!!!!! Steve

Well done on oiling the pivots first, always a good move.

The back section is supposed to lock into the mainstay by two side catches, but these have probably failed, and will cause the back section to jam. I think its worth loosening or removing the three bolts like you say, that should help unstick it. Also to check are the torsion springs. These are located in the well each side where the frame bolts onto the body. The springs often come adrift and lock up the mechanism.
    Good luck.

I had the same problem and the advice here was to loosen the three bolts and up it popped no bother. It is a bit hit and miss to adjust again to get the catches to work, but I got there in the end.

        thankyou both.
I have checked the springs previously, so with your feedback i now feel confident that a visit tomorrow will have the roof stowed an finally i'll get it to my workshop this week

        THEN THE FUN BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!

The hood will pull up without loosening the bolts, just take care of your knuckles. You should also be able to collapse again if you push it down.

          Good luck,

            Thanks again to you3

Went up yesterday tried to raise or lower the roof and no luck. Marked the rail positions with tipex loosened the 6 bolts and with a bit of a juggle got the roof up. Had a few practise runs after re-tightening the bolts and now understand the basics of what to do. I've then refitted the hard top pushed it out of the one and only previous owners garage, car cover on tied down well awaiting the transporter a week thursday i hope.

              Thanks Chris(Vmad) for advice.
I have the same problem regarding the back rail under the window is caught under the tonneau hinges so if I loosen all three hinge bolts either side will I be able to free it?
Also trying to get the wind deflector to fit, the rear of the soft top went into the tonneau without the catches locked on as I was just trying to see if the soft top would clear the wind deflector.Would this have caused the back to get caught under the tonneau hinges?

There's something quite special about being out in the dark with the top down, seeing the stars perhaps, even in the cold it can be good, Aviator up round your ears, pair of warm gloves, and only a few of us nutters know about it, good - very good ! Martin.

Done that job, what a performance just because I didn't put the hooks on,try and avoid doing that again and I have a wind deflector that fits now!!!!! Bit of luck supergluing the syrup on is a thing of the past now.
Hope it was a good night Chris.(Vmad)
