Hi Edd, keep the clock, and swap that useless temp gauge for the combo water/oil gauge, best price is from MGBHive. Martin.

Thanks everyone. I will now start the rest of the strip and source those parts. I like the idea of the combined gauge. the clock will also be a nice original touch
And will contact those mentioned for some further advice
            Regards edd

It seems you have a Mk1 Speedo but the rest of the dash is a Mk2 spec.

If you require a Mk2 speedo (I have two of them now) you can have one of mine .

Well my car came with an oil pressure gauge fitted where the air vent would be. The clock didn't work and I've been led to believe they are unreliable so I took the clock out, replaced it with the oil presure gauge and managed to find a replacement air vent and hoses on ebay. I don't care too much for the time in the Stag anyway - you get in, you go somewhere, you get out.

On my MK 1 I ditched the clock installed a oil/temp combination gauge reading temp from the left hand head and the other temp gauge reads from the right hand head, in the process of changing out the bezels to chrome. Is that a oil pressure gauge the one with the orange needle ? it looks a bit out of place. As for time when I am out driving the car I have no concept of time so who needs a clock, just my 2 cents.

                        cheers Stuart

                          Thanks for tips everyone !
I have now removed all the varnish , i did try varnish remover but it did,nt touch it , a steady hand with a heat gun and a razor blade did the trick !
I am disapointed in the black area by the lower right hand fixing screw and have ordered some oxalic acid treatment for it , hopefully it will work ! Any other ideas ???
I will keep posting pictures of progress but hopefully back grinding soon once it gets warmer !
                          Regards edd

Bloody hell Edd, you don't hang around, do you ? Good on you.

You only had that car a month or so. I know who to come to if I want some building work done quickly

See you Saturday - and I'll be dragging 'Staginhiding' out of hiding so you can meet him as well

                            Cheers

Hi Edd, that looks very good indeed. Personally, I would leave that dark spot alone, almost any treatment will either bleach it, or darken it. Under lacquer, I believe it will almost vanish. Martin.
