carb rebuild - petrol in manifold

-8oc in the garage & the tools are very cold - must be nuts!

Decided to strip down the carbs, clean & establish any worn parts.

I did notice that when starting the car, the electric fuel pump did do alot of initial clicking to fill up
the floats, which seemed strange even after it was only started a couple of days previous.

On removing the carb unit, I noticed wet petrol in the base of the v inlet manifold. Implication
is that petrol must be draining from the carbs into the manifold when standing.

Any ideas guys? Perhaps floats not set correct, so petrol seeping thr jet into the inlet, or the needle valves ?

This must be happening when the car is off and standing though? Any prompts much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forum. All you describe is normal, there's nothing amiss at all. Martin.

Needle valves are not sealing properly. When did you last fit a new (quality) fuel filter?

Thought probably the needle valves. Looking a little further, namely under side of the carbs, it appears to be only one carb; there is petrol at the base of the
butterfly disk (noticely wet). Last filter was some time ago (5+ years). But I have a new one ready to go on after the rebuild.

Possibly a related issue. I notice if the car has been laid up for a number of months. On ignition I sometimes get petrol out of the carb overflow.
In the past I have simply turned off the ignition, waited a while and on restart the overflow does not return.
