So many to choose from and where to get them?

I am about to start the restoration of my newly purchased Stag, been laid-up for 30yrs.

I am an experienced mechanic so the brakes, steering, suspension etc should not give give me to many problems,lol, (touch wood)

My thought is about a decent wiring diagram and engine info ie.specs, dimensions,, tolerances, torques etc

ANY advice on what to buy 1st appreciated, i know what i'm like in a few years i'll have everything written about Stags. At a local meet someone suggested timing chain dvd?

Hi Steve, Tony Hart's timing chain video is a good idea, also the factory workshop manual, on DVD, and the Haynes manual for quick reference. A large laminated colour wiring diagram is available, though I'm not sure where. Good luck. Cheers Martin.

The three main references I used when restoring my car were the BL repair operations manual and parts manual and the Practical Classics Stag restoration book.

Handy to have a Haynes manual as well - I have always found the stag one to be very good.
The DVD is useful as it also covers servicing.

There is a Mk 1 and a Mk2 Diagram as in Hayes, the Workshop manual etc. However changes were made over the years and some are not documented. What year is your car?

NB. The ones in Haynes state up to LD2000 or from LD2000. This is a typo and should read LD20000

Further to what others have said, I agree that the Parts Manual is extremely useful, however not all of the diagrams are completely accurate

As for the wiring diagrams, the latest cars (poss LD40000 onwards) had a slightly different set up (most easily identified by the interior light switch on the centre console having two black wires, rather than two purple wires) that was never officially documented. However there is an accurate hand drawn diagram in the technical pages of the club website.

I have quite a collection of stag Manuals. The only one I use is the BL Repair Operation Manual. 9Often referred to as the ROM on here. This is the one the BL mechanics would have been working from in the dealerships. And it is still in print.

Some of the DVD copies - the official ones anyway do not work on all computer operating systems. (Mine will only work on windows XP). I would go for the paper one.

My car is a 1974 LD322110 so will the wiring diagrams be correct?

Hi Steve,

Yes, the DVD in the club shop is the Tony Hart one with timing chain replacement.

I think, but am not sure, the wiring diagram will be correct. If you pull out your interior light switch and you've got two purple wires where there are the two black ones in the pic then you'll be ok. If it looks like the pic below then the wiring diagrams in the books (and I believe the laminated ones) will be wrong - although they'll still be ok for most stuff. If you have got the black wires, like mine, then come back on here and we can point you to the correct, hand drawn, diagrams.

There are wiring diagrams on my website www.grampianstags.net
Instead of looking up numbers on the diagram & reading a chart, I've named all the items so that you know immediately what they are.
Print them off & laminate them yourself.
I have an A3 copy on my garage wall.

this is a site worth looking at http://www.stagbytriumph.co.uk/ it has some parts of the Rom (pages) attached as PDF files. I got a copy of the service manual somewhere on line - think I still have a copy electronically -

Feel a bit silly but getting hyper excited, stag arrives on thursday, cant wait to get stuck-in

SILLY ? nah! I remember being 7 with my face pressed up against the toy shop window, that feeling never went away, something to do with Triumph Stags, and being a bloke, few ladies understand but that's their loss. You'll notice Wendy that I said FEW ladies. Martin.
