    4 Speed Auto box

Took the car out today to the Eastbourne Show for the first time with the new 4 speed ZF box. My initial impression was that the car was a bit sluggish as it went through the gears quite quickly, but after getting used to it, to accelerate quickly you have to floor the peddle more to activate the kickdown or drive it manually, the only thing wrong was that the speedo wasn't working. I got another guy who was with us to pace me, he drove at 50mph and my revs were 2000. Much better on the open road when the engine was not screaming it's guts out and a much more pleasant feel to the car. Overall big improvement and well pleased.

How does the 3 speed selector work for the 4 speed Bob? Does it just skip the '1' option?

All the gears fit into the same space Russ, just closer together so do not line up exactly. Apparently when Clive developed the box for the Stag he wanted to make it look original appearance wise that is why the filler neck is transferred to the off side. You will be pleased with yours, when are you having it fitted?

It's just down to logistics now Bob - cash funding is now in place, which has pleased Clive!

It's basically that I will lose 2 complete working days effectively, getting the car there and back - after discussing with SWMBO who I also work with, we reckon that the best time, if there ever is such a thing, is thefirst few daysof June..... I've conned my brother-in-law to ferry me about between here and Clive's

I emailed Clive to say that he needs to keep a kit on one side for me..... didn't get a reply but I'll ring him later this month to organise it

          Bob.

You can tighten the kickdown cable, which will make the box hold onto the gears longer.

            Hi John

Will be playing with adjustments now that I've got it running. We will have to compare notes.

Just broke through the £2k Auto Box Fund so am now looking at who to give my custom to?

                    Monarch?

                    Ward?

                    Favershams?

Fancy a couple of days in Evesham so favouring Monarch?

Anyone out there with experience of these garages or are there more Auto Box Guru's out there?

Monarch and Evesham are not the same. Clive Tate the designer of the conversion is in Evesham. I took mine to him as he has all the knowledge and experience.

He's also a member of the Worcestershire club and really knows his Stags, he also does a lowering kit see Roger (Chairmans) whitestag which Clive did.

I'm not sure that Monarch do the ZF box fitting, give it to Clive if you can get to him, he will be able to set it up right for you and overcome any problems that might arise. I fitted my own- not too bad a job, the only thing is that you don't get any instructions only a bag of bolts.
