    Which carb gaskets?

Rebuilding carbs and have looked at a number of cd175 detailed carb diagrams and am confused (easily done).

    1) My cold start is the disk type with 4 holes. I noticed there was no gasket on removal, should there
be one? I have seen conflicting diagrams. I wouldn't normally worry, but its petrol!

    2) No bypass valve on my carbs, which I think is normal. Again some diagrams seem to show
a blanking plate where the bypass assembly would go. Blanking plate or not?

I can tell me carbs have been stripped before, and can see a number of gaskets missing, probably which has lead to the questions.

    Hi Nige,

Sorry to see that you've, unusually, had no replies, especially as you're so new on here.

Unfortunately, I'm not a carb expert so I'm not quite sure but I hope by adding a post I'll bounce this subject back up to the top of the list and one of the experts may notice and give you your answer.

    Good luck.

    Cheers

    Julian

      Hello Nige,

There should be a gasket under the cold start. I have never seen a blanking plate for the bypass valve though. On the other hand, if your carbs were equipped with bypass valves before a blanking plate would make sense and certainly no harm. I guess you can cut one out of sheet metal and seal it with Hylomar.

Whereabout in Herts are you based? I will be in Tring late in May.

      Kind regards,
      Dieter - from freezing Germany.

Smashing, thanks guys thats most helpful.

I thought there should have been a cold start gasket. Worrying, that previous rebuilder didnt bother.

Ref the bypass, no plate neededf as it looks like the carb holes in the bypass are all closed off in the stag carbs.

        Im just outside Stevenage, Dieter.

        Cheers again, Nige.

The cold start gasket is a later addition. They didn't come with them originally, but you will usually get them in the rebuild kits now.

Dave, smashing that answers my confusion. Since the gasket in the kit did appear a match for the cold start.

When it comes to petrol Im not as rough & ready as normal
