Just consider, for a moment, that Triumph/BL/Rover had actually got their QA/QC, marketing and product development right and hadn't gone down the tube and were actually making a Stag today. What would it be like?

I suggest that it would have a modern V8, with FI and turbocharged or supercharged.
It would have modern running gear with modern emissions. However, due to modern safety requirements it would probably look like many of the current designs, along with a folding tin-top.

What Spin has developed is a modern Stag in traditional clothes. So it looks like what we are used to, and love, but goes like stink with a modern power-plant. The best of both worlds, IMHO. I have to agree that the shifter sort of spoils the interior, and the jury is out on the choice of wheels, but the rest? Superb.

I should also mention that my Stag modifications were progressively checked by an automotive engineer approved by the vehicle licensing authority in West Oz. and it has been inspected by the licensing branch and permits have been issued for the fitment of the LS1, Turbo 700 box, Megashifter and exhaust etc. As Dave points out, I now have a 'Stag' with awesome power and performance, improved reliability, improved braking, lower emissions etc. and its all in that beautiful Stag body. The acceleration is unbelievable and yet it is an excellent cruiser on long trips and to cap it off it has improved economy on long runs.
The MegaShifter is a dominant feature of the car, and for me it gives the car that crazy different look. The shifter allows me to manually shift the 4 speed auto with a fast ratchet action when I want to or I can drive it as a normal auto. The mags, yeah I am not totally happy with them and will probably source some deep dish style mags in the future. Spin

No worries Edd, it is true I was a bit bored with the TV8, going up hills, engine pinging, people queuing behind you and blowing their horns.. you get the picture?....

I think that is SaxPlayers Stag on this forum. Finding mags that fit and suit the Stag I find very difficult, I looked at many at still couldnt find anything I really liked. Spin

              Spin,

I love your Stag and think it's a brilliant achievement. I have a TV8 in the shed waiting to go back into mine at some point but honestly I'd consider fitting a Chevy LS-X engine as an alternative in a heartbeat. What an engine! I realise that the transmission and running gear would need upgrading too, though and the budget for all of that may be out of my reach for a few years.

But I take my hat off to you. You have created a wonderful car that I'd be proud to own and drive.
