    Computer Problem 2

    Hi

Just thought someone might be able to help with this as well
I'm running Outlook 2010 in Windows 7 and today I'm constantly getting a pop up saying

Enter your username and password for the following server

Not only frustrating but I think it's now stopping me sending and receiving emails

Username is correct as is my password. As far as I know I haven't changed any settings

    Any clues please

    Dave

Have you tried logging onto your email using webmail (so online in Explorer or Firefox - not using an email client program)?
If that doesn't work it may simply be that the server is down..............

I just had a similar expereince... on the weekend any way. I set up a new email account and decided Outlook was the way to go. For the life of me I cant get OUTLOOK to "Save" the password. After hours of googling the issue I discovered that my version of OUTLOOK does "not save Passwords" when working with Vista or later Windows. Microsoft do not intend to "fix" the problem becasue they want to sell new versions of their software... I now have to leave OUTLOOK open all the time running in the background to save me typing passwords in for each email account. Not much point in using OUTLOOK because I can do exactly the same thing through AOL I just have to sign in and out of each account.

Problem is that the Outlook setup is so complex - trying to work out what is wrong here could be very difficult.
I'd try Googling how Yahoo mail should be set up in Outlook, and checking all the settings. If you can access it online - then it is Outlook that is the problem. As an easy alternative if you don't need all that Outlook gives you, Thunderbird is a good freebie client............

I agree...seems Outlook is the problem somehow. Just puzzles me that I've used it for months without any problems and now this. Googling the problem (and its seems fairly common) points a lot towards the changing of registries etc.. just don't know why this would suddenly happen.
              Thanks

Contact your ISP, it is possible that it is a problem at their end.

As far as apps "remembering" passwords is concerned, if you share your computer with others.....

Do you have automatic updates switched on?

                    Hi Dave,

I experience exactly the same problem with Outlook and Windows 7 - I guess, on average, once or twice a month.

Sometimes it lasts for a few hours - once it went on for a whole week. Nowadays I've got used to it and when it happens I use the webmail access and just wait till it works ok again

                    Cheers

                    Julian

Outlook can be a bity quirky at times especially around the accounts.

Usually when this happens I delete the mail account that is causing the issue.
Restart Outlook and recreate the mail account. This fixes 99% of account related issues
                      for me.

Dont forget to record the account settings before you delete the account

                      Regards

It's no accident that its commonly referred to as lookout in our office

You could try thunderbird email client, its free and has some really neat little features.

That seems to have done it.....eventually. Thanks

The only think now is all my new incoming emails seem to be appearing in my Outlook data file

Not to sure what Outlook data file you are referring to exactly.

It's ok Steve I think I've sorted it. In options you can nominate which file or inbox your mail gets delivered to...mine was set to a default
