    Hot engine bay..

Any suggestions other than cutting big holes in the bonnet ?

Since fitting the Monarch manifolds the engine runs at about the 5 o'clock mark which is fine, but with the hot weather today I have noticed that the moment I stop at junctions the kenlowe comes on.

I don't want to put the kenlowe dial further round because I would rather start cooling before things get furness like under the bonnet. Ihave wrapped the manifolds but everything is just so hot with no where for the heat to go.

what have you fellas done about this ?

Nevermind... I think I know the problem, I stuck an 88 degree thermostat in there thinking this was the summer one, but after some research it turns out I have it the wrong way round and the colder thermostat is for summer use... doh

I had a problem with the temperature getting higher than it should last year and put a 74deg stat in. It just opens a bit sooner but the temperature still climbed as the engine got up to temp and so in effect made no difference at all.

As I understand it talking to various people, because of the funky/poor (depending on your point of view) design of the Stag cooling system, the thermostat doesn't really open an close to control the temperature as it does in many cars, but rather simply sets the minumum temperature it will run at before the radiator does it's job. Once the engine is up to temperature (normally well over 82/88 or whatever you have fitted), the thermostat has no more say in the matter - it will just stay open. In effect, it simply effects how quickly it gets up to temperature, not what temperature it gets to.

I agree entirely with the last speaker - he is absolutely correct in what he is saying!

hmmmm so changing the stat will not help but only slow the warm up, so Bob did you solve it or is it just the temp your car runs at ?

My car never moved above vertical on the temperature gauge and I've owned it since 1982, that's why I became concerned. Flushed the system again, fitted L.D. Parts sender all the usual things. Over the winter I took engine out and gave it a thorough overhaul and done a few trial & error mods to the cooling system which I will put on the forum when I see whether or not they work. One thing that might have caused the problem is that one of my timing chain tensioners had not released from the holder and a chain was more slack than it could be, so might have altered the timing slightly.
