    Petrol tank vent

Had a problem at the weekend got a strong smell of petrol in the car while driving even with the top down. Back at home I opened up the boot and was nearly knocked out by the smell.

Once it had cleared I found that a rubber elbow on the vent pipework had split. This should be a straight forward repair but as my Stag is an Australian export model the set up is a bit different. No spares in the Rimmer Catalog that I can see.

I have fixed it for now with a bit of plastic tubing but I would like to get an elbow to sort it, may have to just buy one ofUK model ones - should be the same size pipe I guess

Anyone know of a source for this type of thing?

    Hi Banny,
Sounds like the sort of problem I had. general fix seems to be a short length of fuel hose blanked off with a bolt or similar in the end.

See this thread for more info.

If that doesn't help, there are elbows in the fuel line around the carbs. One of these might do the trick.

    Regards

        Hi Banny,
I have just looked at an elbow I have in my toolbox, the one I was thinking of, - part No. 149844. The internal diameter is only 4mm so will probably be a bit too small.

            G'day Banny,

I doubt if you will get any of the emissions equipment even "Down Under". When I bought my carmy "Guru" and parts supplier in Brisbane couldn'tbelieve it was still fitted and told me to rip it out as, quote "You'll never get it to run right with it fitted".

I know the elbow that you are referring to, mine split as I pulled it off.

I've now converted my car to UK spec using the Rimmers catalogue and Triumph parts catalogue as a guide.

            regards,

            Raoul

PS. Is your car listed on the discussion forum? If so I think it is only 7 build numbers away from mine. Do you know where it was in Aus? They must have come over on the same boat!

car seems to be running fine so I will see if I can find an elbow to fit for now but if I start to get problems later on i will take your advice

I will dig out the info and let you know about the build and export date.

How do I list my details on the discussion forum?

I've check it out and my Stag was delivered to Horsby NSW on6 Sept 1977 it stayed there until 1984 when it moved to Lindfield before being shipped back to the UK in 1997.
