Help my repair panel looks wrong !

    IMG_1370.jpg

Hi everyone , as part of my restoration i am fitting two repair panels to my lower wings , inspection of the wings so far is good with lots of waxoil coated on the inside !
My problem is the raised section that goes along the cill is larger than the one already on the cill ,if i carry the top line through my cover cills wont fit and if it use the bottom edge the top will look out of alinement !
I am tempted to cut it through and reweld !
Are other panels a better fit mine is from wards and i,m not sure if its a funded part ?
    Helllllp lol
    Regards Edd

      Edd,

I am fairly sure that SOCTFL hasn't funded that part. The only front wing sections done by SOCTFL are the wheel arch outer section and inner wheel arch outer section. heritage front wings are available still, so there is no need for SOCTFL to go further.

It is a pity that, having gone to the trouble of producing the repair panel you have, the suppliers haven't made sure it fits properly.

Hi everyone , its crazy really the rear 3/4 repair panel and inner arch is soctfl and the fit is perfect , in fact its so good it showed how far out my existing replacement cill was !
These panels we purchased from e j wards and they are for the stag for sure ! I think i am going to give them a call failing that the width of cut with the grinder will be the difference in size i need to reduce , at present the panel is crudley put in place just to show an example as i,m not touching the doors until the rear is welded for alinement !
It will bug me forever seeing this oversized detail ! It at least 8 mm to big
My only reasoning is the my outter cills have been fitted wth a smaller than normal raised section ,its a thought i had whilst writing this !
          The joys of restoration
          Regards edd

Well as they say in Bristol . It's propper !
I could use my 12 inch grinder I cut through wall with or my 9 inch that put 10 stitches in leg several years ago.
Maybe I should stick to my mini grinder
              Cheers edd

Does this pic help you to judge whether it is your sill or repair panel which is wrong?

Thanks drew. It's convinced me it's my sill that is undersized so I will have to adjust the repair panel to suit.
                  Cheers edd

Just popped out to the garage and measured that raised rib. Should help you finally determine whether you have a bum sill or a bum panel!

I love the sill covers and really add to the car and complement even the b post covers.

I think Martin is referring to cover sills in the sense of the slightly over-sized sills that could be welded on top of the original sills. This was a frequent bodge employed many years ago. They may still be available, but hopefully no-one is using them any more.

Hi Edd, as Dave says, you said cover sills, not sill covers. Martin.
