    PAS Pump leaking

Guys - just noticed my PAS Pump is leaking from the central / top hose out of the steering pump . If I disconnect this hose (and the fluid loss only falls to the level of this connection) do you think I would still need to bleed the system once reconnected and filled up with new fluid ?

    Thanks
    Ian

Hi Ian, use a hand wash pump (Carex etc.) with a bit of tubing to empty the reservoir, into an old jar. Yes, it will need to be bled but it's simple, jack the front wheels off the ground then run slowly from lock to lock a couple of times. Don't leave it to self bleed, the first corner might give you a nasty surprise. Martin.

Thanks guys - Martin - silly question - with the wheels up and going from lock to lock, would I need to run the engine at same time ?

        Ta Ian

Yes mate, you need the PAS pump to be operating. N.B. There are no silly questions, it's a Stag, it's important ! Martin.

If that isn't self bleeding, what bleeding well is?

At the first turn, the steering may be unassisted. Martin.

Think your reaching with that one Martin, can you honestly think of anyone who would carry out that kind work on a steering system then go off down a road without having turned the steering from side to side before they set off? if you do then you know some proper dopey *******s.
Do they dothe same with brakes?

I've been trained in motor vehicle repair, attended up dates over the years and now train and assess on courses myself.
Yes it does self-bleed,technically, but a few extra minutes raising the car to reduce the loads on pump and rack to purge air from the systems not only may protect the components but reduces risk to driver and passengers. There are a lot of ill-informed people (dopey ******s) who might benifit from sensible advice

As you're unfamiliar with the term "best practice" I'll forgive you. You've led a very sheltered life, and obviously only mix with knowledgable people. ! why so angry ? Martin.
