    Hammerite

    Hi Guys
How long should hammerite take to dry? I put some Kurust on the inside of my boot yesterday, and used aerosol hammerite this mornining left it about 2hours then gave the boot floor another coat, checked the paint 4 hours later thinking it should be dry and was surprised to find it still wet!
    Have I done something wrong?

    Hi,

I have had hammerite take two days to dry.

I am not sure why but it is always when I use it out of a spray tin!! Once it does dry it usually gives a very good finish.

      Guys
I didn't know you could get Hammerite in Topaz! Drying time is affected by temp/humidity. I like Hammerite too - I bought some POR15 which is supposed to be the Bees Knees but after reading the warnings on the tin I've been scared to use it!

I've never found hammerite to mix well with any other system - neither before it is applied nor afterwards. At worst, it reacts horribly and never cures. I've even had a bad reaction between Hammerite rust converter and hammerite paint.

In normal cases (on bare metal) it is dryish to the touch in about 4 - 8 hours, but it takes weeks before it really hardens.

I stand to be corrected but I think hammerite "cures" as much as dries, Have a good of the can.

I have had trouble with Hammerite not setting in the cold, I'm sure that is all it is. I had my suspension arms in the garden spraying them up, they looked great, until i went to pick them up and they were still wet. i carried them indoors and they were dry in a couple of hours.

That's interesting, can you tell us why ? I've found it to be very robust and I've never had any problems with it. I would like to know what the downside is before it bites me. Martin.
