Category 1 alarm fitted saturday with 2 immobilizers and microwave sensor, guys were here ages, so when they went, drove car around estate half a mile to help charge battery and what should happen the BLOODY HEAD GASKET BLEW, WHITE SMOKE & CHUCKING WATER OUT OF THE RAD EXPANSION BOTTLE. If it has not got hot then the heads should be OK. I would hazard a guess that the fire ring on one of the rear cylinders has failed, it is right next to the waterway. Best of luck with your head bolts!

Begs an interesting question - are there any Forum members who have never had to do a Head Gasket change on their Stag (either themselves or a Garage)?
Perhaps we should have a "Poll" - I have done 3 on mine (each one myself), but I have had the car nearlly 18 years, and one of those changes was just one side only (which meant I had to do it again later as you should always change both together). We could discount owners who have only recently acquired their cars and haven't yet had the "joy" of getting the Heads off, and perhaps also ask what else was done at the same time (such as changing the Timing Chains).

I never left i have been reading posts every other day building up my knowledge!

Annoyingly i have had issues with my every day car (Land rover series 3) so my planned work on the stag as been put on hold!
But my S3 has a new Gearbox now and is fighting fit. My dads bought a barn which will soon be converted in to a storage area for the stag and also a little work shop so ill actually have the space to do things but also i wont have to finish them in a day as it will be my workshop!

Anyway ill stop high-jacking this thread and maybe ill start up my own on Wednesday as ill be getting the stag out then

                  Ben
