    What is it?

I'm in the process of refitting my centre console after repairs to heater valve and cable,

There is a connector which is located to the right of the console behind the cig lighter. It appears to be a standard lucas female connector but with long (1.5cm) Connector.jpeg.jpgmetal prongs protruding from it and I can see no obvious place for it to fit.
That's the best description I can give after an hour of trying to attach a photo of it from my i phone.

    Ring a bell with anyone?

    Thanks

    Steve

    Steve.
What colour is the wire feeding the connector?
possibilities are supply to the radio, is it the old fuse holder inners or could be the inners pulled out of broken windows / interior light switch.
check the HRW switch and the cigar lighter cant think of anything else in that area.
colour of the cable may be a good clue. Does it go back into the main loom or does it look additional i.e is this from a previous owner installation?

    All the best
    Paul.

Thanks for the response. I was starting to think I'd set the record for zero response to a thread.

There are 2 wires attached to this mystery connector and both are purple.

The wiring diagram shows a purple lead to the cig lighter and there is indeed a purple wire fitted by a bullet conector to the centre of the cig lighter.

      Any help?

Roughly in that area there is the radio feed and I believe a red/yellow cable which I think was for the fog lights (if fitted) but that is no help to you if your wires are purple.

But purple wires suggest a feed for accessories, interior lights, glove box or horn.

          Are they live?

The type of connectors you have described would suggest they fit into a block connector.

I know you've had difficulty posting a clear photo, but the ends of the whatever-it-is appear to be bulbous on opposing sides. If that part is made of plastic, it suggests that phil may be on the money with it being the securing clips of a block connector. If these two protruding parts are plastic, look up beyond the base of the pegs to locate the pin connections. A probe with a multimeter will indicate if any are live, and removing fuses one by one, still checking with the meter, will show which circuit it has been supplied from.

As an afterthought, was the car ever fitted with an anti theft device? Or is there any evidence of anything else being fitted? My suspicion is that some odd accessory has been fitted way back in the obscure past, such as one of these travelling kettles, a separate CD player or Satnav, with the PO wanting to keep the cigar lighter knob in place.

It certainly doesn't look like any part of a Stag that I know of, so if you can't find a use for it, leave it in if it's safe to do so or take it out to be sure. (so to speak..)

As posted above. Footlight. The prongs are the part of the male lucar connector which go into the plastic of the light. The female connector didn't "let go" so the prongs were pulled out of the light housing with the male connector still stuck in the female connector.

That's it! Ignore my garblings above and give ten points to the Guru we know as Drew!

Just check it's not the positive connection that is bare in case you earth it out on something adjacent.

Thanks All for your help and Drew for the photo which made it so obvious I need a white stick.
Like Tribemaster, I'm still clearing up the fire hazard created by a previous owner and electicity is a dark science to me but things are coming together nicely for a drive to Stoneleigh this weekend.

This Forum is a real help and thanks again for your assistance.

Maybe we should have a competition to see who has the worst PO cock-up

Maybe we should have a competition of pictures of obscure parts, or ordinary parts taken from odd angles, to see if we can identify them

                            Cheers

Thanks for the sentiment Duncan - cheque's in the post! Truth is I am NO WAY a Guru (at the most a Kanguru). I get so much out of this Forum from the real guys who have been there and done it that I over-compensate by trying (desparately) to help out where I can, (as helping others gives me the most satisfaction) with photos, measurements, links or whatever. For heaven's sake, I've never even driven a Stag yet! Anyway, it's a nice reward to know the modest help I can offer is appreciated. Oh well, back to the bottle - you can tell I've been at the wine tonight, can't you!
